Henderson Out Per CJ

I cannot express how happy I am. Anyone on Twitter please update us to responses. I'm in court and it's taking all of me not to run all over this courtroom shouting in excitement.

A lot of the national guys are quite surprised by his resignation. Basically blaming UK and their lack of facilities.

Guessing a lot of national guys don't really care when UK loses to NKU, EKU, gets blown out by WKU, loses to IU and UL when needing some kind of mid-week boost...then flops down the stretch in SEC series...

The national guys probably aren't following UK games during the games either - seeing questionable coaches decisions almost every game.

I saw the national guys sounding off...to me it looked like Henderson was a great guy, probably gave them great access...so its probably tough to lose an SEC coach that gave you excellent access and was a very good guy.

It's more important now that UK makes a serious commitment to baseball. Mitch is going to have a really hard time selling this program to a potential candidate.

Nah, I don't, you are not going to get a big time coach to leave a Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, TCU etc. But there are several really good Coaches at lower level programs waiting to get their chance to run a bigger program in a Power 5 conference.
As in Derek's article, the Wright State coach, plus maybe the guy at Bryant, Tulane has a good coach. Plus several big time assistants also looking for that HC opportunity. I mean John Cohen hadn't been HC of a major program, he got his chance at UK and ran with it !

Everyone wants to call Henderson an elite pitching coach. It has been said time and time again, but where is the actual proof of it?

He was at Florida as a pitching coach and was named assistant coach of the year once and Florida went to the CWS twice during his time there. After that he went to Oregon State from 99 to 2002... during his time there they finished no better than 6th in the Pac 12. In 2000 OSU had an ERA of 6.00, 5.85 in 2001, and 5.60 in 2002. I guess it is good that he had better ones his last two years, but those are pretty bad. Hard to say how bad because the bats were a lot different then, but I am not impressed with it too much.

So, if he is such a great pitching mind then why was he unable to put together a top 5 SEC pitching staff while here? I would say you could blame facilities, but if that's the case then why was it that Bohannon was able to be Assistant Coach of the Year at UK and Brian Green was able to put together some outstanding hitting teams (as Cohen was able to do as well)? It is harder to have great pitchers, but his, IMO, never showed much semblance of greatness. We've had some great prospects, but it rarely, if ever, came together as an above average pitching staff. If he is such a great baseball mind what held him back? What's held him back since leaving Florida in 1998?

DID NOT like at all the part where the building of the new stadium has not left the planning stage...this is ridiculous and an embarrassment to the administration and $$$$$$ folks at UK...it's been TEN DAMN YEARS people...Come on!!!

Most times the truth hurts, but this is the truth. It may be hard to hire a quality individual if he can point to the TEN YEAR promise to then UK coach John Cohen about the building of a new facility as to whether MB and the $$$$ people can be taken at their word. It is why the ground breaking needs to happen at least by next month and construction equipment on the site working. Does anyone know if anyone has already won the contract to even do the work?

Greg Goff could be a name to watch for. Former pitching coach at UK under Madison and currently the head coach at Louisiana Tech.

A lot of people defending him on Ingram's twitter, Ingram included. Ingram trying to make the argument that we would have been in the NCAA tournament the year Paxton got the bad advice. However, I think that is a silly argument considering that Paxton was drafted 37th overall. A coach can never, and should never, rely on a guy getting drafted that high and returning to college. Had he came back it would have been pure luck for Henderson. Henderson knew, or should have known, that he wasn't going to have Paxton before Paxton ever got drafted. So, IMO, we had the year we would have had without him. You could argue either way that thinking we might have him back hurt us, but it may have also helped us considering our hitters got to practice against a future big leaguer in practice.

I want to really see an argument as to why the facilities were such a detriment to Henderson. It certainly didn't seem to hurt recruiting. Was it because our pitchers were more sore than other pitchers? What about our facilities held him back so much that his best team ERA in his 13 years here was in 2012 with a team ERA of 3.41. That would actually be a top 5 SEC pitching staff this year, but in almost every other year Henderson had rotations that were up around or over 4, sometimes over 5. So, why couldn't he put together a consistent bullpen?

Did not know that, is Louisiana Tech any good ??

Yes. #3 seed in the Miss. State region. First NCAA tournament in 29 years as I recall. Goff didn't take over until 2014. He was also very successful at Campbell.

UK would be a step up in terms of the conference, but Goff has a good thing going at La. Tech. Really nice facilities, too. Putting the conference affiliations aside, I'm not sure it's much of a step up.

La. Tech won 40 games this year and had an RPI of 31. I don't know a whole lot about their team, but Goff is just in his second year and he's put out a pretty good product there so far. I think there are some better candidates, but he's certainly not a bad backup option at the moment.

I really want to watch Bryant play. They beat us this year. Their coach is in their 6th year and his records look like this:

30-23
33-21
45-18-1 (NCAA tournament)
42-16 (NCAA tournament)
29-25
47-10 (NCAA tournament)

Half the time he is making the tournament at a tiny tiny school in Rhode Island... that, to me, is making the most out of your talent.

They beat us on a Sunday and scored 4 runs against Cody (3 earned) off of 6 hits. They ran him off in just 3.1 innings. The scary thing is that their schedule was and is atrocious, so is that why they are so good or what?

An extremely obscure coach that I think might be able to do outstanding, but I would be very scared to take is Patrick McCarthy.

McCarthy coaches Faulkner University in the NAIA. He's been at Faulkner for 7 years. In 2013 Faulkner won their first ever NAIA championship. He is 292-91 in his 7 seasons. He has taken them to 5 NAIA World Series appearances in his 7 years. He's had a 4th and a 5th round pick in the draft since arriving in Montgomery, AL and has also had 2 10th round guys. I think he largely recruits JUCO, so I don't know how that would translate to the NCAA/SEC, but his win numbers are freaking amazing.
