Hmmm, a shot at someone? I don't think he was impressed by the UK players part in this..

Oscar's view on the fight or football in general is of little value.

UL or TU players? Probably not, you probably won't ever hear about them.

Did you have something else to add, wasn't this discussed on here enough, aren't most waiting to see what really happened, if it ever comes out?

Probably best not to take the bait and continue this discussion, I'm sure we will be hearing something soon.

A-frickin-men, brother.

Oscar Combs is the king, the grand poo bah of UK Basketball-only fans

not only do they not enjoy or understand football, but it angers them that it exists and takes away time & attention from their precious basketball

He knows nothing. His voice alone is like nails on a chalk board. Embarrassing.

Oscar hopes all the rumors are true about the fight at the EKU dorms as well. His hope is we shut down the FB program so they can build a 70,000 seat arena for basketball...not that I would mind a 70,000 seat arena

Sorry but have to disagree with you there. I think there is more disdain for the UK basketball program from the football only fans than the other way around. A true UK fan wants success for both basketball and football alike. To me if you are a UK basketball fan only or a UK football fan only you might as well not even be a UK fan. How can you pull for one sport and not the other.? OK to have favorites from other schools as well for various reasons but does not mean you should despise the sport you choose not to be a fan of.

I personally do not know anyone that falls into either category. We relish our success in basketball and hope and wish for something to cheer about in football. I see more despise on this board for basketball than I ever see on the basketball side for football.

You have a point, but then ask yourself this question: Why has it taken so long to make a true investment in the football program, while its financial success means more to the total athletic department than basketball? I have zero disdain for our BBall team, but as a person who enjoys the SPORT of football over basketball gets frustrated when the bball team spends tons of cash for Midnight Madness while our FB coaches, until a few years ago, had a fraction of the recruiting budget of its SEC peers.

There has to be a reason this was the case for 40 or so years, and it starts at the top. That is why you see the anger towards bball on THIS board, and apathy and "meh" towards football on RR. With some success, this might eventually even out.

Have to agree. I might have taken Oscar seriously 20 years ago. Not anymore.

You mean the guy that proudly coined the phrase, "At Kentucky, football is only a distraction until the real sport begins..." would perpetuate something negative about he football program without having any facts? Shocked, I am. Just shocked!

I have known Oscar a long time, and he likes to be the voice of everything UK sports related. He was a visionary with his Cats Pause magazine back in the day - 70's and 80's; however, the internet has made him 3 steps behind everything just like the rest of the media. I am amazed at things I read on the message board, and literally 2-3 days later WLEX is announcing it like it is breaking news. They don't even realize that they are several steps behind.

Exactly. The only radio show worth getting any football info from is Toms Leach Report, or when Freddie Maggard is on with Larry Vaught IMO.

The other UK sports themed shows use UK football like Howard Stern uses sex.

I'll flat out disagree with you about that. I recently posted an observation on here during the height of football recruiting season and simply stated there was basketball article about on the football recruiting opening page. People here responded by making ignorant attempts at insulting me. Worse, the writer and site left it there confirming they don't really care about getting it right with football. It is not the mistake that was revealing it was the reaction when the mistake was exposed.

Once I listened to a pod cast when one of the basketball writers made a derisive remark about Mark Stoops coaching decisions and I called them out on it on this board. They got defensive and made remarks, false remarks about me and then took down the thread before I could give the time spot and remark I was talking about------ all this without even asking me what I was concerned about. They followed that up with less than cordial remarks in their next podcast about my post---- again without even asking me what I was referring to. To reiterate, it was a remark made by a basketball writer concerning the football coach I had an issue with, a remark that would never be made about Calipari. A remark they not only were unaware of but also did not concern themselves with a UK fans concern about football.

I agree that a UK fans supports all UK sports. I also think some UK football fans could be a bit more diplomatic in their remarks but to state that there are more football fans who dissed the basketball program than the other way around is evidence the opposite is the reality.

I am a UK FAN! Basketball got my attention - our high school didn't even play football for years. But once I became a UK fan I became a football fan too! This year I have read twice as many football articles as basketball articles. Here we are 20-0 with one of better basketball teams and I caught up in UK football. I think speaks volumes for what Coach Stoops has done for UK.

We have had some setbacks in recruiting, Cal doesn't get all of his targets either! The UK football program is going to be just fine. Some people who have spurned us of late may regret their decisions in the future. Most UK lettermen have the opportunity for a very good life after sports here in Kentucky - Kentucky takes care of its own. I don't know how well and injured player from out of state will remembered in another state. I hope it doesn't happen to them, but how many hot shot football players aren't playing by their junior years because of injury? It's a tough sport as to injuries. Just look at how many good players we have lost to injury - even this past year.

Go Big Blue!
