Hawkins?

When Lee came in with the second platoon I thought he showed energy, blocked or influenced a shot, but was yanked with the rest of the platoon and never saw the court again. I guessed maybe he was sick because Cal was talking about energy at the half and that was one guy who had it for his brief moment (maybe Cal felt different). Then it made me wonder about Hawkins. The guy is marginal at times on the offense but he brings energy and great effort defensively and with the guard play that Ole Miss was exhibiting I was surprised he wasn't given an opportunity to defend either of the Ole Miss guards to stop those 3's.

I know there will be the trust in Cal responses, but I am more interested if anyone has thoughts why Hawkins isn't getting an opportunity?

Because we are getting closer to the dance, and cal is trying to utilize all the time he has with the players that are going to make a difference.

It's just part of the process.

It shocks me as well . I understand why Willis isn't playing, but it seems to me that Hawkins deserves a little time here and there like he did last year. He may well be our best on ball defender we have. Very odd

Cal knows what he is doing Lee didn't bring it and as he said on Dan Patrick he didnt derserve to play in 2nd half.

Booker and Ulis defend quite well, and do very well on the offensive end. It may not be Hawkins' fault, but it's hard to keep Ulis and Booker off the floor if the twins aren't out there. And since Ulis was being schooled last night, Cal still had three other top-notch guards to use.

Hawkins will probably see more time next year if we miss Newman or if Booker leaves.

He's simply not good enough to take minutes away from the Twins, Booker or Ulis.

Excuse me , but there was one game last year late in the tourney where DH came in and did an outstanding job on defense and was praised by Cal that they don't win the game without him...

You may have a good point but this is a different team and different situation this year over last year. We have more and better guards on this team and are much deeper than last year and Hawkins is just odd man out at this point.

i dont know why people think this. sure cheer the guy on but the reality is hawkins is a walk on who has a scholarship. he will likely never really play.
