26-13. Score indicates that it was a competitive game between two fairly evenly matched teams. However, UK left 16 points on the field by not closing out 4 drives and taking FGs instead. A 40-13 game feels a lot different that a 26-13 game. UofL arguably had something to do with stopping those drives but UK’s problems in the red zone all year probably had more to do with it. In any event, if UK finishes a couple more of those drives, this would have been a 3+ TD game. It isn’t the 40 point beat downs over the last couple of games against UofL but I think it shows there is still a significant gap.

Please .We doubled the score on them in a year where we had one of our worst offenses in years.

It closed yes but there is still a huge chasm. Should've been two more tds for us at least and we gave a TD away.

Stoops and levis post game also mentioned they just wanted to manage the game in the second half. Plus I'm sure they wanted to let crod rack up whatever yards he could.

So despite the score, it really wasn't even close at all.

Until Satt starts getting power 5 sized O and D lineman they will never beat UK regularly. Their heaviest D lineman is about 290. They can get away with it in the ACC but won’t fly against SEC caliber/sized linemen. And that’s even true with the worst UK O line in 6+ years.

The could’ve been card would be worth playing if we had been capitalizing at any point. But not capitalizing is who we are at this point.

Yep. Won’t change unless they can change that and I don’t know if they can.

At no point did I think we were in danger of losing. I'm willing to bet Louisville fans felt the same. I'll never understand spreads and prediction models for this rivalry though. Louisville favored last year, UK -3.5 this year with ESPN's model giving Louisville something like a 54% chance to win. Just silly. Until they find a qb, more size, and a few more playmakers, we'll continue to win the last game of the season.

Quarterback was the only significant difference in yesterdays game. The trenches were basically even.

UL started 10-11 seniors yesterday (most on defense). There is also talk on the UL boards of exiting transfers. They will likely take a step back next year even with a good recruiting class.

Yesterday's game was physically dominated by the Wildcats except for the 2nd quarter. If we had not committed 9 penalties in the first half, our leading margin at halftime would have been bigger. This is probably the best team Satterfield will ever have at UL. I expect his 2023 recruiting class to suffer several decommitments.

Let's play what if. What if the scenarios were flipped.

What if UK had started their backup QB and an injured Levis played 1/2 the game. CRod was injured and never saw the field.

On the flip side, if Cunningham had been 100% and an injured Evans had played in the game.

Halftime was 13-7 and UofL received 2nd half KO. So there was opportunity for UofL to deliver. UK shut the door in the second half.

A big performance by the Schnellenberger MVP going 4/4 after a season where he was 12/20.

Congrats on 4 wins in a row. I can hope that UK does not tie the Cardinals who once won 5 in a row in this series.

You guys had 8 in the box all day on D and we ran it down your throats at will. You got very few havoc plays and no turnovers. Meanwhile, we were getting pressure only rushing four and created several turnovers.
Pretty sure Louisville had more rushing yards than UK did yesterday. CROD ran for like 120 and our backup ran for 145 and 100 of that 145 was in the first half.

The gap between our programs is only going to get wider. The SEC and Big 10 are going to be so far ahead of everyone else over the next 20 years, all the other P5 teams will essentially occupy the space the Group of 6 teams have had previously. TV contract money and the resulting NIL cash will be too different for the Louisvilles to keep up.

At halftime I was pretty frustrated because I felt like we dominated the game and was only up 6. UL has improved but they are nowhere close. Their vaunted defense was just propped up by the fact the ACC was overrated. If our offense and the playcaller wasn’t complete trash in the red zone, we would have had 40-50 points

The rushing yards were essentially the same, but UK outgained UL in total offense. The long catch and run by Kattus in the 1st quarter was the difference in the offensive stats, but UK's defense and special teams won the game.

Your backups were better than your starters. If Malik stays in you never score that second TD.

Uk lbs not finding good run fits vs outside zone for one series has nothing to do with trenches.

Levis is far from 100%. Malik has been healthy many times vs UK, he hasn't won yet.

If you look at the box score the two teams were pretty even yesterday, but UK winning the turnover battle +3 was really decisive. Zooming out, it's hard for me to figure what the means for the long term. UK won't keep winning indefinitely, and the portal could change things dramatically on a year-to-year basis.

I would say I didn't get some of the comments online from Twitter yesterday that UofL closed the gap on physicality. I guess to some degree they have, but UK's DL (especially Walker and Rogers) was abusing both UofL's interior OL just about every snap. I thought a lot of the running success came from off-tackle runs, and also UK's ILBs not keeping their run fits consistently.

Also, UofL's WRs could not get open very often vs UK's DBs. Hard to judge UK's OL vs UofL's front seven to some extent, just because UK's OL has been as bad as it's been and everybody has issues tackling Rodriguez the last few years.

The what IF game can be played all day long on both sides. The fact is UK won but not by the wide margin like the previous 3 games. Louisville defense is getting better as a whole but still has a ways to go. Louisville is 34th in total defense which is a big improvement over the 88th best defense last year, UK is 20th in total defense. Last year Louisville would not have been able to hold UK to those 4 field goals as those probably would have been touchdowns.

UofL’s WR’s struggled all year with getting open/separation against the better defense.

I disagree with this. Our defense was much better and our receivers were much better. Our TERRIBLE WEAKNESS was our O line and it’s been terrible all year.

We had a short field most of the day otherwise we would have put up more yards. Our linemen were better than yours on both sides of the ball. Heck, we had a Freshman DL who was dominating your interior linemen. We were in prevent for most of the second half because we knew that that game was won by mid 3rd quarter. You racked up some garbage yards against that.

Whatever on the garbage yards comment, Louisville had 114 yards rushing at the half so clearly most of UofL’s rush yards came in the first half.

How many Sr's and Super Sr's does your team have on defense?

Scangerello was a BIGGER part of UofL being "able to hold UK to 4 field goals" than the your defense. However I LOVE the aggressive scheme your DC employed for the year.

Your O-Line was better at the outside zone rushing attack than ours probably because our O-Line was built to bang.

The ACC this year was WAAAAAAAYYYYY down. In the SEC we have to deal with opponents size AND athleticism, especially on the lines and LB's.

If this is the first Kentucky game you have watched then I completely understand this point.

However if you have suffered through 12 of them like most on this board have that simply is not the case.

Kentucky all year has had the worst o line in power 5, along with one of the worst d lines as well. Routinely we never get any pressure while getting sacked or pressured on offense unless it’s a screen play.

Yesterday Kentucky routinely had pressure on your qb and we had one of our best protected games of the season.

It seemed even if you didn’t know any better, but that front in the SEC as others have pointed out has been awful all year but looked good yesterday.

Put your backup quarterback in and see what happens. I believe we saw that already.
Going forward, your entire conference is going to be used as a farm league. So enjoy these “what if scenarios “ it’s all you’re gonna have.

You should start with “what if every season our best players didn’t enter the portal and transfer into the SEC?”

There is still a gap, but it's not as wide as it was. Some of that is UK regressing and some is UL improving.

Truthfully, there was nowhere to go but up. We have run up and down the field on UL with little resistance the last 5 years, so at some point, they were bound to show up and at least put up a fight.

But, we weren't in any real danger of losing yesterday despite having a horrific OL the entire year and a DL that failed to get pressure all year (yesterday we were getting good pressure on their QB and our OL was effective in the running game for a change).
