Stoops wouldn't even deny he was interested like most coaches that say they aren't going anywhere and they're happy at their job. He replied with something like I'm not going to respond to that and went back to talking about the UL game. Sounded to me like he had a foot out the door by completely avoiding the question.Stoops never accepted; in fact he turned down AM.
That is as much definitive as what AM is claiming.
Stoops statement sounds like he turned them down.
We will never know the actual facts so move on with the winningest Football Coach in UK history and get ready for another bowl game, another top 25 recruiting class and key transfers coming to UK and an expanded 12 team playoff field next yr.
Wooooooooooo!!!!!
He turned down TAMU and that’s why they’re in damage control mode.Serious question…
He turned down TAMU and that’s why they’re in damage control mode.
It makes perfect sense. Top ten salary, lower expectations and he’d be going to an unrealistic fan base. He obviously likes it in Lexington. Having TAMU interested in our coach only raises our profile when he turned them down.Which makes no sense as his bitching about NIL would have been taken care of asap at tc a and m. They pony up big time. We are supposed to believe they offered him and he decided to stay here because it turns out he likes having less NIL money than most SEC teams? Without a raise or extension to entice him to stay?
Makes one wonder why he even interviewed.

Billy Donovan did essentially the same thing to the Orlando Magic.I don't think it would have broke at 1am had he turned down TAMU
as for Stoops returning, I don't think it matters other than there may be some chaos with losing players, but it sounds like that was going to happen regardless.
If he gets a pass going 7-5 this year then what's the worst that can happen with his return?
trueBilly Donovan did essentially the same thing to the Orlando Magic.
You don’t know that for a fact.true
and I can go as far as Stoops turning them down, but only after he heard the backlash from the fanbase at A&M

anyone that knows the facts here, please chime inYou don’t know that for a fact.
No I think he actually inked the deal and had a change of heartBilly Donovan did essentially the same thing to the Orlando Magic.
You keep saying this, but where is the proof he turned them down? He would say he turned them down reguardless how the deal fell through. It makes perfect sense. Top ten salary, lower expectations and he’d be going to an unrealistic fan base. He obviously likes it in Lexington. He said he turned them down and TAMU was obviously interested. Those are the known facts. You keep saying this, but where is the proof he turned them down? He would say he turned them down reguardless how the deal fell through.

They Hired Dukes coach Mike Elko, so again like I said their expectations exceed who they can get.He turned down TAMU and that’s why they’re in damage control mode.
Stoops flirted with Florida State a while back. Seem to think he was real close to accepting that one before backing out.Kiffen flirted with Auburn last year while at Ole Miss
Petrino flirted with Auburn a few years back while at UL
There has to be others but I can't think of them.
I don't think this will work with Stoops coming back. He's already falling back (losign to Vandy, USC and Mizzou at home is not going forward), he's been pissier with fanbase than I remember in past (pony up comments) and talking of how hard the SEC schedule is....he never used to do that after a bad performance).
I wonder how many recruits we'll lose knowing he's not solid with UK.
only what Billy Luicci from TexAgs is saying, but he isn't saying Stoops turned them down, he is saying Ags fans revolted and Stoops was told maybe this isn't a good ideaSource?
Whether he declined or they backed out can be debated, but I think stoops very well could have been ready to accept then saw the backlash and backed out knowing he’d be walking into a job with his seat warm from day 1. Why go somewhere you aren’t welcome. Stoops likely hurt his long term chances by not bolting after our first 10 win season when he was a much hotter commodity at least perception wise.Which makes no sense as his bitching about NIL would have been taken care of asap at tc a and m. They pony up big time. We are supposed to believe they offered him and he decided to stay here because it turns out he likes having less NIL money than most SEC teams? The question begs. Is the two Citrus Bowls UK’s ceiling as a program or is it Stoops ceiling as a coach here? And that is fair and probably how it went down IMO. It is over and done with now anyways. Don't see it helping or hurting UK football and expect the same types of seasons going forward.
Got big basketball games this week and college football conference championships coming up so this topic is about at its expiration for me.
Apparently comprehension is hard for some. He said he turned them down, that’s what’s known, not necessarily facts though. Do you actually think he would say nevermind they don’t want me, I’m staying and happy to, and expect to be well received? He said he turned them down and TAMU was obviously interested. Those are the known facts.

Ceiling here for stoops. He just doesn’t have what it takes to get beyond that or have any level of consistency. His teams have been unprepared to play several games per season since season 1. We were largely unprepared to play about half the games this year. The question begs. Is the two Citrus Bowls UK’s ceiling as a program or is it Stoops ceiling as a coach here?
Nah, never close. Interviewed with fsu AD after they fired Taggert, didn't like their money situation, both sides mutually walked away. Look at their news last summer, now everyone down there is unhappy about the money outlook.Stoops flirted with Florida State a while back. Seem to think he was real close to accepting that one before backing out.
So you think he fails at a place with better resources ability to draw top 10 recruiting classes year in and year out? Who do you think UK would realistically be able to hire that could elevate the program and bring in classes to compete in the top 5-6 of the new expanded SEC year in and year out? I'm not saying recruiting at the UGA and Bama levels, that's not realistic, but recruiting at the aTm, UT, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Auburn, levels. Who's that guy? Can Sumrall do that or would Sumrall's ceiling be about what Stoops ceiling is? could Coen assemble a staff that could recruit at that level if given the chance? Who's that guy that top talent will flock here to play for?Ceiling here for stoops. He just doesn’t have what it takes to get beyond that or have any level of consistency. His teams have been unprepared to play several games per season since season 1. We were largely unprepared to play about half the games this year.
I consider the 2020 season pretty much an exhibition season, and so did the NCAA, it's why they gave everybody an extra year of eligibility because of it. There were a lot of extenuating circumstances, that caused a lot of games to be unfairly played with all of the covid restrictions, various players sitting out from game to game, lack of fan attendance, it was all just a big cluster. And honestly, I can see 2024 being a weird year too, but that's a topic better left for another forum on here.Idk with NIL and the mega conferences and potential for 9 game sec schedules. We got a taste of that in 2020 (albeit 10 games) and it didn't go well. The last 2 years with NIL up and running weren't great successes.
Nobody but Stoops inner circle and the aTm admin knows the "facts". Everybody is just speculating on here as was the poster you responded to.You don’t know that for a fact.
That tweet was a week old and was in reference to the Auburn loss. Justin Rogers transferred to Auburn.Stoops wouldn't even deny he was interested like most coaches that say they aren't going anywhere and they're happy at their job. He replied with something like I'm not going to respond to that and went back to talking about the UL game. Sounded to me like he had a foot out the door by completely avoiding the question.
Even Cal said he was happy at Memphis and not going anywhere before he took our job because it wasn't a done deal yet. Stoops deal appeared to be a done deal and he probably wanted to sign the contract and let his team know before commenting. A&M just got buyer's remorse after the backlash and nixed the offer before he could.
The tweet a player put out about the grass isn't always greener and then changing it to something like I guess it is during all of that last night goes along with Stoops leaving. Makes you wonder if that was what it was about, then the players knew Stoops was interested in another job days before when the original tweet came out. That tweet may not have been about Stoops and job hunting but it sure lines up with it.
You are assuming a fact not in evidence. I know, The Hack is the lawyer here, but I did read a lot of Perry Mason books.Serious question…
