I can think of athletes who were worse people -- hell, we've had murderers, drug dealers, dog killers, woman beaters and on and on -- but I can't think of anyone who struck me more thoroughly a self-absorbed phony artificial jerk.
When you work harder than anyone and are an all time great you can be an arrogant asshole. Can you imagine lebron with Mamba mentality? There would be no debate who the best all time is.
You have a point, Pete Rose is the example of someone who worked his way to greatness but was a real butt sometimes.
I can't think of one person that's an arrogant a-hole that I like or respect. The people that I like and respect that worked hard are humble. Weird argument on your end.

I had heard a lot of talk about Pete Rose during the '70's. He worked for an insurance company in Cincinnati during the off-season and there were a lot of rumors about his arrogance. A lot of players were probably that way prior to social media and just goes to show that greatness on the field doesn't necessarily equal being a role model.
That woman was just looking for a pay day. Why the hell did she go to his hotel room is my question. To sleep with him. What the hell did she think he wanted ???? LOL. The whole thing was dumb.
Kobe was never at Pistol Petes max level. Ever. He had more longevity but Kobe couldn't touch Petes peak performance. Put all the greatest shooting guards on the floor at once when they were at their best and the only player better that Pete was MJ.
You would think he'd be higher on at least one of these lists. Your opinion is in the minority.

I don't need a list from someone I don't know to tell me who I would rather watch play. I think pete was a better shooting guard than Kobe. Kobe was a ball hogging rapist, that rode Shaq's nuts to success. Anyone who gives themselves the nickname "black mamba" is a douche of the first order. Thanks for your opinion.
