Hagans moved ahead of Epps, Macy and Minniefield last night in single season assists

This will probably make plenty of people on here blow a gasket, but if I'm looking at that list of all-time great point guards, I'd put Hagans WAY down the list, despite his assist totals. If I had to rank our past point guards, Hagans would barely crack the top 15. He would definitely not be ahead of these 10 guys:
Macy
Wall
Ulis
Fox
Epps
Turner
Knight
Rondo
G-Alexander
Minnifield

And I MIGHT also put him behind these four (which would make him 15th):
Hawkins
Ford
Teague
Harden

Not hating. Just making conversation.

Agreed. I think Teague and Hagans are actually very similar talent wise.

Hagans is no doubt explosive and can still grow into is skill but right now he’s too sloppy for me to choose him to lead my team over the first list of guys you mentioned.

I gotta say it sucks that Hagans is this team's whipping boy. Most of the criticism is legit but it now seems people are piling on because it's trendy. Everyone focuses on the turnovers, ignoring all the little things and intangibles he brings to the team. Or all the assists he has. And yes OP I'm glad you pointed that out

He's a good kid and is always communicating on the floor. He gets excited for everyone who scores, even from the bench. Yes the turnovers are a problem. He needs to clean it up and he will. Im telling y'all he's going to be huge in the postseason.

You guys are pretty tough on Hagans. Yes, he makes some frustrating plays at times and has trouble finishing at the rim. But the thing that makes him so good is that he's strong as an ox, is tough as nails, and can be a game changer on defense. Oh, and he's also now in the top 10 in UK history for assists in a single season. By the way, this is not me blowing a gasket. This is just me adding to the conversation. We've got a pretty good point guard here and he's still got room to improve.

Yeah, I was an "early adopter" - missed layups and careless turnovers got the best of me. I posted that a couple of times. But lately the criticism has looked like piling on, so I'm staying away from it...

If Hagans had the offensive weapons to share a basketball with, remotely similar to Epps, Turner . . . since we're just making conversation, that is.

Just a little comparison. Bit of apples & oranges considering times change, teams are different, offenses are different, etc. For their Soph. year....

G MIN TO ASST
Wayne Turner 40 908 72 120
Tyler Ulis 35 1287 69 246
Kyle Macy 32 1097 68 178
Rajon Rondo 34 1054 79 167
Dirk Minniefield 28 890 71 151
Ashton Hagans 28 936 99 182 ... of course season not over

Edit: for some reason the columns headers and the numbers won't line up as they do when I did the post. Hopefully you can figure it out.

Where is he on the historic list of turn overs for a season? I did find that John Wall averaged 4 turnovers a game.

Actually, I disagree that people are beating up needlessly on Hagans. Usually, it comes in response to outlandish claims about his ability (best PG in the country, etc) made by people like the OP. His turnovers and mediocre shooting percentages are legitimate criticisms of his overall play. He's a good player, not great....but let's not go overboard on his skill set. He's got time to improve though, and I hope fervently that he does.

I’m more disappointed in Montgomery than Hagans. He just plays so lazy all the time. Hagans does great things if he keeps the turnovers down.

Great post. There are some on here that have to be dissatisfied, because it’s makes them happy. Some of the same people that hate on Hagans are some of the same ones that are hating on Dave. This is our team and hating on any of these kids just shows their ignorance. We’ve always had a few fans like this and always will, which is very sad and makes our fan base look ignorant.
