We don't have the strongest frontcourt, but they could have watched the first 10 mins with bag of popcorn in their hands. They need a chance to get into the flow of the game. Teams have shut down the pick and roll with AP since last Sat.

AP is never going to be a guy that beats his guy off the dribble. He either scores from games like last Sat, getting put backs, post ups or from floating around the FT line then making quick 1-2 dribble move to the goal. None of that happened during first 10-15 minutes the last 2 games.

I like our guards. They're carrying the team and play well together. They can carry us down the end of games. But, if Cal wants a post presence he's going to have to script it. 51 shots between 3 guards is indicative of little effort to get others involved.

We have ZERO Post game!!! Alex, Marcus and Skal all have weak hands, don't like contact and struggle making contested shots. This makes it difficult to score from anywhere but the guard and wing positions.

gotta get the bigs involved, if they don't finish plays thats another thing, but get them involved early!

Would be more inclined to get the ball into the post if the players in the post would:

Score on the low block
Rebound
Fight for position
Take care of the ball

Alas, our bigs don't:

Score on the low block
Rebound
Fight for position
Take care of the ball

Guards are probably starting to, or already do, lack confidence in the bigs ability to score if it isn't an open dunk or layup.

This. Laughable that some haven't figured this out yet.

If the inside guys are struggling, Humphries and Tai should be brought in to see if they can help or at least get the starters' attention. That's not happening and is on Cal.

Not following your logic, who down low is going to be this scoring threat?
Lee? No post skills what so ever
Poy? Not a post player and only good for garbage points or pick and roll plays
Skal? Dude just doesn't understand how to play down low at all
Humphries? Maybe but Cal won't play him due to defensive reasons. ie Harrellson
Wynard? Just got on campus and is what 16? Still would like to see what he has to offer in a blow out win though.
Willis? No post skills and plays like a guard

Murray, Ulis and Willis are the only 3 guys on the team that can score points consistently on the team. When any of the 2 of the 3 go on scoring droughts its going to be rough.
I thought it was really bad when Briscoe had back to back offensive fouls/ TO. Would have been nice if he had been playing well like he did the previous 2 games.

Hey op, are you that Danny idiot that called in on the post game show? Bitching about Murray shooting but then stammering and stuttering when they asked who you wanted to shoot?

Nope. Listen, I'm not saying we're loaded in the frontcourt. (BTW - Thought it was funny that an opposing SEC radio program listed UK as having a top 3 Frontcourt in our league. I do disagree with them.)

I'm simply saying that our guards can get those shots on almost any trip. If Cal wants to get the post players involved he needs to do it early in the game. You don't have to do this for the best of the best. We don't have that kind of big man talent this year. This year's bigs have to have some set things ran for them.

Ulis and Murray are excellent guards. (Which I think will take us far in NCAA. Tourns are about guard play.) I coached AAU. The great ones get their's no matter what. Good (but not great players) need some scripted stuff for them. The earlier they get a couple baskets the better they become.

Poythress got some early touches and baskets against Ala. Willis got a couple early baskets yday and it increased his confidence. All our bigs need a few plays ran through them early in the game. It will determine big man rotation for the rest of the game.

Some of you think I'm knocking the guards. As stated above, Ullis and Murray are excellent guards. They can get their shots at any time. I'm saying Cal will need (and I think he will) script some early touches for a couple bigs to get them into scoring position. Early baskets changes everything for them.

Btw- I thought Poythress's defense was exceptional yday. We definitely need 10-12 pts a game from him. But, I'd rather have him on the floor when he's not scoring more than Briscoe. AP brings more to table if neither are scoring. It becomes ugly game when both are on the floor and neither are scoring.

At end of the day Cal has proven he knows what buttons to push. If this team can hold on to a 4-5 seed they'll be a hard out come March.

Great post!! Agree 100%
