GT finally cans Josh Pastner

Kyle Tucker just tweeted it as well but wouldn't surprise me to see Kentucky bring Pastner on.

The dude is good with Xs and Os, even if he is a bit of a goober.

Wouldn't mind seeing him come on board!

When he was an assistant at Arizona under Lute, he was considered one of America's best recruiters. Actually that's what he does best. Just was tough for him getting the talent at GT.

One previous assistant that I wouldn’t want to come back on staff. He has that same “where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” image that Scott Drew has. Pastner probably would make a good assistant at a high major that needs a turnaround, but I wouldn’t trust him further than Kareem Watkins could throw him. I think he’ll end up as a head coach at an unknown program; I don’t think his ego will let him go back to being an assistant.

He’s good at X’s and O’s? He just didn’t recruit at Memphis or GT? I mean he sucked pretty bad both places. I would have thought at least at Memphis with the in city talent they get he could have done will in their conference if he was a solid X and O coach.

Jesus Christ dude. There is no where near the “smoke” with either of those guys as there was when Calipari was hired . Or even now if you’re anyone other than a UK fan . Get back to me when they have TWO final fours vacated.

Is he? That certainly was NOT my observation. I recall the few times I watched his Memphis teams I was struck by how terrible their shot selection was and how poorly coached they looked from an Xs and Os perspective.

Guy is a goof ball nobody on this staff is getting the ziggie to bring this nut job on

Georgia tech is a pretty good job for basketball. Not sure why they've had such a tough time getting it together. Same for UGA.

There is more talent in the metro Atlanta area than any other area in the country, seems like you could roll out of bed and do better than .500 without even trying too hard.

I mean Orlando Antigua was also a terrible head coach. So was Joe Dooly, Hubert Davis seems to be, etc. etc.

There is so much that goes into head coaching, not just Xs and Os and recruiting, but recruiting the right guys, getting them to buy in, hiring the right staff to carry out the head coaches recruiting needs and scouting work (this is a big part of where Antigua failed, his staff here in Tampa was a train wreck).

Just because it didn't work out at Memphis or Ga Tech doesn't mean the guy can't coach, some guys are just better at being assistants.

There's an old quote....

"Some people are born to be THE GUY. Some people are born to be the guy that THE GUY counts on."

I always found this quote interesting and think it's very true for coaching.

Pastner, Antigua, Joe Dooly, etc. just seem to be born to be the guy that THE GUY counts on. Nothing wrong with that, and would love to have him here.

Yeah I was just really asking, do people actually say that about Pastner? I’ve never heard that or really didn’t know.

Pastner just got the jobs maybe before he was ready. Considering all of his experience, he would be our youngest coach

Yeah the dude can coach. I went to a couple of coaching clinics that he spoke at, I came away extremely impressed.
