I always love to see a kid getting to play for his Hometown team.
Its a shame 247 or Rivals doesn't do baseball recruiting. How good was our 2022 class and the current 2023 class?
Baseball recruiting is just a whole different animal. I think it is probably significantly more difficult than basketball or football and would require a huge infrastructure to be really good at it. Heck, even the expert scouts seem to miss a good chunk as players tend to develop way differently. That being said this is how we look with PG:
2021 recruiting class was ranked 39th by Perfect Game, which is 13th in the SEC beating only Ole Miss. Louisville was ranked 6th. We signed 1 top 100 player, who likely would have gone pro but for having Tommy John surgery this summer. Not sure if we will see him at all in 2022. Will depend on his recovery.
So far in 2022 we're ranked 24th. We have 2 top 100 players, but I expect at least one, if not both, of them to go pro. So, that will significantly impact out recruiting ranking. I believe that currently has us ranked 12th in the SEC in recruiting.
2023 we have 10 commitments so far. UK seems like they like to recruit around 11-15 players each class, so we may be close to done with HS recruits for '23. If so, it doesn't look great. Ranked 41st and currently have no top 100 prospects on board. Average ranking is pretty low. However, kids in this group have a good chance of blowing up.
I will also say that baseball is difficult because JUCOs, and now transfers, are getting folded into the mix on these classes. UK very much seems to prioritize these types rather than focus on the young players.
