Great article on Mychal Mulder

Really glad to have this young man on our team. He seems like a great guy and willing to work his tail off to become a better player. What more could we ask for as fans. I really do believe he can become a special player and one that we will never forget!

I agree. I like that he seemingly has a chip on his shoulder also, due to the lack of NBA talent from that area since the 1940s. Also seen that the last big name recruits came out of that area in the 70's, and went to Michigan State to win the title.
He seems adamant about putting Windsor on the map as a place for basketball talent. Playing with that type of chip, with his athletic ability, as well as his shooting ability, well that could take somebody a long way.
Few thing would make me happier than to see him achieve that.

He really seem like he wants to be here and prove his worth. Hopefully, it works out great for him and us.

Great article! Thanks for sharing! He definitely has the skill and attitude to succeed!

Where was this guy rated out of high school?

Not sure, and really doesn't matter. Truth be told though, unless you go to Orangeville Prep, it's rare that you're getting many looks from recruiting services if you live in Canada.

His wingspan is 6'10"?? Lol if true, me likey? Good defensive potential as well as his scoring ability.

That's the first I heard of it, but with his athleticism, height, plus his wingspan, he has an enormous amount of defensive potential. He's already a defensive playmaker, but if he becomes a lockdown defender as well as a shotblocker if he gets ran into the interior, it could be very good for us.

His athletic ability is off the charts. Would love to see him playing the 3.

Another big reason I hope that we get Vick. If Briscoe and Matthews are having any difficulties on the offensive end, I think a lineup of Ulis, Vick, and Mulder could give UK an instant injection of offense all over the floor, and a lot of defensive potential and athleticism to match.

Tons of neat factoids, quotes, and a lot of perspective in that article. I'm really glad that he's getting the opportunity to make some noise here at UK.
I recommend everybody reads it, it's very enjoyable.

Thank you OP, for posting the article. His genuine enthusiasm to be a UK wildcat is what the doctor prescribed for our team after what we witnessed how the other so called elite recruits showed their behind to us. I am sure he will give his teammates, Coach Cal, and us fans his 100% every game.
I am thrilled to have this young man as a member of our team.
Welcome Mr. Mulder to our home and I know you will be very much liked by our fans. I wish you the best.

This young man really intrigues me. I think he could prove to be huge for us, but I am trying not to build up any crazy expectations. He seems to have the physical tools and the shooting ability. He seems to have the work ethic. He seems to have the right attitude. The only question that keeps popping up is why, with all of these tools and values, was he not already at a major program? I'm hoping that he is just a late bloomer like Steph Curry (not at the same level but you get the idea) or that he just did not get the exposure in high school in Canada.

Such a cool read. It's nice to see an article about a kid who truly appreciates the grandiose of the UK uniform and what it means to wear the Blue and White.

Personally, I think Mulder is going to surprise a lot of teams we play because he isn't just a shooter. He can slash and score too.

Very happy to have a player who is genuinely excited to be at the University of Kentucky. Very nice read and has made me become an early fan of this kid, sounds like a terrific kid with the potential to have success. I'll be pulling for him.

Things I learned and like from that piece:

- He doesn't seem to be the usual JUCO with personal issues, which you typically have to worry about.

- 6'10" wingspan- eek.

- Dude is 21 so he'll be 22/23 for the Cats. I like having mature guys, especially considering the youth we always have. It's a nice balance.

- Kid sounds humble yet hungry. I don't think you're going to have to worry about him not working hard or not buying in.

It really could be a number of things, and we'll likely never have any idea. He could have been overlooked due to being in a part of Canada that doesn't produce much D1 talent, he could have been a late bloomer (But I don't know if that's true because as a freshman at that Junior college, which has an elite basketball program at that level, he was the only freshman to start there. This past season, he was the leading scorer on a team that ran pretty deep with nearly 16 ppg), but who knows.
I'll take it though. The kid has measurables to be thrilled over, he has spot on shooting accuracy, insane athleticism (able to get his elbows on the rim), a ton of body control, and he seems to be very fast on the court.
There is a lot to be excited about with this kid. The attitude and the way he carries himself being a big one.

Cal seems to do incredibly well with guys who have a chip on their shoulder. In fact, he's the same way. He'd rather be the underdog, although that's a rare role at Kentucky.

As for Mulder, I don't understand the lack of attention either. Most guys with size, athleticism and skill don't go unnoticed, but we see that he's produced at the JUCO level, so it isn't lack of production and simply a potential type thing.

Guess we'll just have to see. If he just comes in and fills his role, buys into playing defense, and shows the skills we can see with the eye test and my the measurable stats, I don't care what he was ranked or where he played last season.

That video embedded in the article was pretty interesting. The stuff toward the end when he's mixing it up in games was no joke, however he's helped by the editing.

Which video? The one from his freshman season at VU? Also, realize, that was 2 years ago. I imagine he's improved his game even more.

Damn, this guy looks like a hell of an athlete. The dunk video was wicked. Looks like a darn good player to me.
