I was really happy to land both Brown and Key and both have already been mentioned by the coaches and Levis as opening some eyes. With TR, these two, Chris Lewis, Dekel Crowdus, DeMarcus Harris, Magood, the TE room, backs who can catch, et al - if Levis is even just equal to his performance last year, I expect the passing game to be very hard to stop. Give WL just a bit of time in the pocket and he should have multiple guys capable of catching 25+ balls this year. Not so last year. Staff, at least from what I've heard so far from the spring and now preseason, has done a magnificent job of upgrading the receiving corps. Night and day prior to Wan'dale coming on board. Really excited to see the upgrade in speed and athleticism across the board. Depending on personnel groups, we could scheme some serious matchup nightmares for a lot of teams.

I said in another Tread can you imagine the battles Brown and Afari are going to have ?

You might be right but it could be a worry that we could be depending on freshmen.

Our receiving room is absolutely LOADED with talent. Unproven yes, but the talent can be displayed early amongst this group.
Receiver is a position that can flourish with underclassman - unlike the trenches.

I love that the talking heads and our opponents are labeling the receiving room as a weakness for the program since they aren't "proven" - they really don't understand just how much talent has came into the room. Just the competition amongst themselves will improve them and have them ready for Sept. 3rd.

That's a legit concern. But, the TE room has vets, TR and several others also have some experience. The most exciting potential WRs, with few exceptions, are FR or inexperienced but, in our system, we'll figure out who the players are pretty quickly. The depth will push everyone to get better, know the playbook better, etc. Tons of speed and, with an experienced QB, the breakin period should be condensed.

One thing to keep in mind during post-practice press conferences is to know what the question is along with the coach's response. Sometimes coaches talk about Player X because they were asked directly about Player X. The journalist may be working on a story about Player X (for the next day or longer feature in the week to come) so they ask "tell me about Player X".

Not saying it's the case here with Brown to be clear. It was easier to discern why coaches were talking about players - directly asked or brought them up on their own - when the full Q&A was released. Now I don't know any site that puts the whole transcript out besides Jeff here.

I've got no worries if we "depend" on our freshmen wide recievers....Brown, Key, Crowdus are 3 of the highest ranked kids UK has ever signed at the position. Those 3 literally could have gone to many top 10 programs, and we got em.

BTW as great as it is to hear coaches & players brag on Brown.....it will be more impacting to 2022 wins that they are also bragging on Afari. We *NEEDED* someone from the 2022 class to come and contribute in the secondary. Reciever room, it is a luxury, not a desperately needed thing.

I firmly subscribe that is is best to red-shirt kids but, it is nice that we are starting to recruit kids that truly push for playing time as a true frosh

Generally I would agree with red-shirting but now there's this thing called the transfer portal.

We signed the 13th or 14th best class in CFB last yr. But pretty sure the only guys who will play regularly are Goodwin, Brown, & Afari. All others will probably RS.

Best sign that UK has a deep, talented vet roster

You left the player that will make the biggest contribution and that is Key. Coaches and players are saying he is the best WR on the team now.

True freshmen WRs can contribute. Brown is probably the best athlete on the team (no offense to Anthony- the only one faster & a world-class sprinter for his age), but Barion is 5” taller. BB has elite straight-line speed AND elite change-of-direction to go with it. In HS (before he moved to QB his senior year) he showed he could make contested catches when he has to adjust to the ball

Stoops and Levis talked about needing to bring him up-to-speed because he is so special athletically, & Levis said he flashed making plays even the first practice.

I’ve comped him to Xavier Worthy, Texas’s true freshman WR last year (I know he’s not as polished as a route-runner & of course I don’t expect that level of production-even half that production I’d be ecstatic). ), but he has a chance to be special.

There are others on this board that I respect that would tell me (and have told me) to temper my expectations, but I won’t LOL.

One thing I will question you on is Barion's height. He is definetly not 5" taller. If you look at the media day photos, he's around 1" to 2" taller. My guess is that Barion is closer to 5'10" in reality. That said his change of direction is absolute out of this world. And that is almost always more important than straight line speed. That's not to say that Anthony isn't quick as well but Barion's high school footage looks off the charts.

Right I forgot Key was an early enrollee, him starring in the Spring throws my mind off of him being a true frosh

I was going by listed heights (or what I thought were listed heights anyway because actual height difference listed is 4”)… I know they fudge listed heights, but I figured they fudged about the same for everyone LOL. After looking at the pics, I agree with you it’s not 5 (or even 4). Maybe 2. Jordan needs to tell them to use the same tape measure they measured Barion with so he could grow to 5’11” or 6’ LOL.

Evidently, BB made a tough catch for big gain at Fan Day today. Think he's in the mix for a lot of targets this year.
