I bet my neighbor 2 doors down that Bobby Petrino will be gone from L-ville after 3 seasons there ? If I lose I gotta mow his yard for a month. If I win he has paint my plank fence on both sides.

Personally I'd take mowing over painting any day. So I think you definitely got the better end on that one.

Also, I'd start getting paint samples.

He'll be gone as soon as he can be. And I'll bet UL may want him out before hand. I am betting the process will take either 3 or 4 years. The odds are definetly with you if you would have bet 4 years instead but you probably still have winning odds.

I think he is there for the long haul. I dont think he has changed much but I do believe (like any man) he saw his family slipping away from him because of his repeated bad decisions and refusal to settle down and that alone will keep him planted for a while. I wouldnt be surprised to see him there in 15 years. If he is gone it will be because of losing and or bad decisions off the field. Odds are neither of those things happen. Which leaves one other scenario where he would leave and that is he wins at a record setting pace and becomes the hottest name in football again. Which means UL wins big, which isnt good. I think this is a lot like folks thinking Pitino would leave Louisville when he first signed on. If they looked at the whole picture they would have realized UL was probably Ricks last stop. I think the same thing can be said for Petrino. Look at the big picture and you realize he is probably there for good. They are in a P5 league with playoff access, the fan base love him, he is paid well and the administration has more than proven they will spend what it takes to win. I think it was a bad bet but only time will tell.

Id say petrino is there for 5 seasons. Buyout is too big for him to leave too soon. Most of the nfl and ncaa wouldnt have him anyway. Theyre def not gonna pay extra to buy out his contract...however, it would not shock me to see him or his players get caught involved in extracuricular activities that ended up causing the program to implode in one way or another. Then, he could leave or get forced out.v

What he said......

He might find an NFL OC job, or move back down out of a P5 HC position. That is it, and would involve a pay cut. No self-respecting P5 AD or booster set wants him. Might as well cover your program in its own feces first.

I agree that your bet is more one sided. Mowing lawns is far better than painting a fence.

If I were to have made the bet, I would've gone for 4-5 yrs. I don't think that he's a changed man. "A Tiger can't change his spots." (and yes, I said that on purpose) However, I just think he's running out of places to go to.

If you would've bet 5 years I'd say you're a lock to win. Like another poster said no one would pay to buy out Petrino and sacrifice their good name at this point in his contract. Your saving grace could be Tommy Turtleneck. There is language in neckbrace's contract releasing him from it if turtleneck leaves. Why would turtleneck include such a clause without considering the possibility that he leaves? If McElwain fails at Florida (if recruiting doesn't improve he certainly will) Gator fans will be ready to can Foley and turtleneck would likely be a prime candidate at which case I think he'd have to go. I could see that scenario playing out in your timeframe.

Petrino will most likely bail after year 4-5 years when his method of forming rosters catches up to him. He's always managed to get another job right as his roster was about to implode. You can't build a consistent winner relying on marginal students, drug dealers, and women beaters.

UL is probably Petrino's last head coaching job. Too much money involved if he leaves. Third, as long as Jurich is at U of L Bobby can do anything he wants - as long as he wins and he will - regardless he is a good "x and o" coach. Be happy you didn't bet more - that is one bet I wouldn't make with anyone - he is now a "U of L lifer" without any chance for parole. Remember the three strikes rule. First U of L (was always looking to leave for something bigger) then "fleeing Atlanta" and next "lying at "Arkansas". Not to mention the rent a coach year for Western - which was a good move for Western - because of the publicity alone!" Who had really ever heard of Western in football, even though they beat Joker, before Bobby P. became head coach?"

Go Big Blue!

Depends on what he does at Louisville. Equaling what he did last year or worse is going to keep him at UL. I mean, I know UL is the greatest college football program in the country but 9 wins and finishing in 3 or 4th place in the ACC and going to the Belk Bowl just isn't impressive as an Orange Bowl. Now, if he goes to the Orange Bowl, he'll be gone that season. Some school will take a chance. I can't imagine an NFL team ever taking another look at him but a more respected conference with a 2nd tier team probably will.

It cracks me up to see people use the buyout as a reason. No school or team pays the buyout on a coach's contract. It may keep some schools away but if a school wants him, they will start talking. They are all negotiated down and if a coach doesn't want to be there why is a school going to fight it.

The only way Petrino leaves after three is if (1) he's killing it at UofL and (2) teams from Power 5 conferences are now willing to take the baggage.

I hope he's there...it probably means he's doing a very pedestrian job.

Just like others have alluded to I don't believe anyone would take him at this point. Especially right after this Matt Colburn situation. There is only one school in the country sleazy enough to pay him and thump their chests about it. The turtleneck is just as bad as Petrino is.

You should've bet against that Petrino or Lousyville posts will drop below half of all posts on Wildcat Lair before August 2015. You would've had a lock!

I mow five acres, so painting the fence may only take a day. Paint might be the best deal.

I have no idea who might want him, so his only option is they want him to stay. Good it's their problem and not ours.

I'm not sure what other legitimate University in the country would take either one of them. Really. It blows my mind that no one else doesn't think it is extremely odd that jurich threw all that money at him, who was he bidding against, WKU? He was making less than a million there, didn't have a great record, and ended up getting paid for him coaching there a year with his buyout.

Of course with jurich in charge a kickback comes to mind, and also the big charity donation that BP made to charity might have been mandated to improve his image a bit.

Then the $500,000 gift jurich threw at him makes you wonder also, but I think that might have been because it put him back ahead of Stoops salary after his raise.

If Malazhan left Auburn would be calling, but self respecting program might eliminate them.

Bad bet. He'd love to leave. But no one better than UL will have him.
Agree with this....He is glad to be back in a Power 5 conference but he will always think he is better than City College.

You'll probably lose the bet. While I think CBP would love a big-time coaching gig, that's probably not going to happen because of his own past stupidity. Also consider the fact that he was a complete and utter failure in the pros and then blew his job at Arkansas. No President at a big-time school would let his A.D. hire CBP.

Try to negotiate a cool month for that forthcoming grass cutting job. If you can't, remember to keep yourself hydrated.

Peace

And you guys who dont like painting, I do it on the side and would prefer it to moving lawns anyday...if any of you live in or around the louisville area and need a job done once the spring arrives, hit me up!

Wait a minute.

What if one of them was willing to stoop low enough to hire jurich?

Of course that President would probably have to agree to only being a figurehead while jurich was there for jurich to take the job, not many places (if any) except UL where that could possibly happen.

I'm afraid that Petrino has burn too many bridges college and pro to leave any time soon.

Of course you paint them on the side, I haven't seen too many houses with just the roof painted.

Sorry but you made a really bad bet. Lucky for you cutting grass for a month doesn't figure to be too difficult. Petrino is the scum of the earth but he'll stay put for quite awhile.
