Sure makes me think that a 3/4 defense is in the future.....

We already used a 3-4 this past season. We're going after the best players we can get so we can stay multiple. It is incredibly unlikely that we stick to a base defense from here on out unless we have the personnel to absolutely lock down offenses with one specific scheme. Also, I think linebacker recruiting has more to do with our linebackers consisting of lack of experience and lack of experienced talent.

As a side, I wish we could stick to a 4-3. I really think that scheme works better in college.

I don't think its just UK, its everyone and the DC's response to the spread offenses we are seeing today. Getting more guys on the field who can run and cover to address all the passing being done today and hoping your 3 down guys are enough to control the run game. Bama has been huge at their ILB and OLB for years, and they have quite a bit of trouble with spread teams and they have the best athletes in the country, per the rankings. Pruitt is looking for ILB the size of a big S, 220 lb or so, we signed 2 last Feb and both are coming in at less than 210. But they are fast, very fast, they can cover and make tackles sideline to sideline, even beating lots of backs to the edge, but they will be a liability when teams run right at them. But you have to give us something if you are going to slow spread offenses down. Can't expect 250+ ILB to cover WR and backs out of the backfield or even TEs.

Hardly anyone runs a straight formation set anymore. We likely will never run a 3-4 all the time. Depending on who we play and what match ups we want to exploit we will display multiple formations.

No, we ran a 4/3, were sometimes the D-end had his hand on the ground and sometime he dropped back into coverage, but he never had the full linebacker responsibility...... He lined up as a D-end on pretty much every play....

It also makes be think that the staff thinks the LB position needs an injection of talent and depth now.
