Defense was put in tough spot somewhat by our offense, which should have been running the ball instead of passing the ball. Towles was not sharp at all, even though he threw 3 TD's, he completed less than 50% of his throws. Boom bailed us out on some big runs.
It was the story of two halves. The 1st half we were sharp and crisp. The 2nd half the Cajuns changed their defense and we were clueless on how to attack it. The defense was also lacking in the second half.
like starting a game of Oregon Trail. Long ways to go and after last night looks like Dysentery is a big hurdle to overcome
I have a lot of concerns. Overall, while they played very well at times, I thought the team just didn't click like I was hoping. It's easy to get down on them after, but let's remember it's a very young team, especially on defense, and a number of teams more highly thought of than UK didn't look good in their first games either. Towles looked really good the 1st half, and just plain awful the 2nd. There were bright spots though. We have a number of very good backs, and our receiving core looks good to. They will get better. Of course so will the other teams on the schedule. I'm glad I went with 6-6, and I think our Cat's will have to scratch and claw for every win, but I"m certainly not going to bail on the basis of one lackluster half. I also think ULL is a better team than some realize. They've won a lot of games in recent years, and they have a winning attitude which is why they came back, whereas I think the Cat's relaxed a bit after getting a big lead. I doubt that will be a problem in most of their remaining games.
