I've got to say, I think Gilliam may be one of the best, if not THE best defensive first baseman I have seen consistently. Some of you know I live in Columbia and can walk to Founders park from my house, so I make it to a lot more SC games than I do UK games, and have seen a lot of good first basement at Carolina over the years. I watch a lot of major league baseball too, and I have no idea if Gilliam's bat will take him to the next levels or not, but the dude can flat out play first base and could play at that level in the field right now. I really think his defense over there could be the difference in a couple of our close wins this season. He has made some scoops to end innings that would have resulted in runs scoring and prolonging the inning with a different first baseman over there. Am I alone here, or have you guys noticed the same thing??

That could definitely prove to be true, and you are around the team more than I am for sure, but I don't know how you would tell at this point because I feel like Gilliam has made every play on anything that is close to him this season.

Evan White is definitely the best 1B I’ve seen at the collegiate level but Gilliam is really good as well. White was/is amazing.

Evan White won a gold glove as a rookie at 1B. And did so despite hitting an abysmal .175.

I'm biased toward White because he was my favorite UK athlete I covered, but he was also a Gold Glove winner in the American League as a rookie. This is a guy who played outfield for Team USA after his sophomore season. Just an elite defensive player.
