Giles to visit Kentucky 10/16 Big Blue Madness

Will be Harry Giles' second visit for Big Blue Madness. Also attended in 2013.

Nice!

It would be nice to land him and from what I know he genuinely likes Coach Cal......BUT.....I'm not holding my breath.

I know it's a long shot but it'd be awesome if he ended up here. He's a star and will probably end up the #1 pick in 2017 assuming Ayton doesn't reclassify.

I may be the only one that feels this way but this Giles recruitment kind of reminds me of the Julius Randle recruitment. Remember all the drama and how the process drawn out and in the end Randle said he knew for months. It may not happen that way but it just seems similar to me.

Cal appears to be in a pretty good position to get at least one PF out of North Carolina.

Wish he would cancel all but the Duke visit. But a lot of Duke folks have implied this one has been over for a little bit. Hoping for our sake it is true.

On an aside... Can you imagine how much fun this would be? As a high school kid, to go to these colleges where you are the big star for your own weekend? Hope they bring a lot of damn condoms.

Kind of odd to think a kid that is going on his second big blue madness visit ain't seriously considering us. With the way recruiting goes nowadays, you can never tell what is really going on in a kid's head.

I have been thinking the exact same thing myself .

cant remember his name from USA Today, Jason Jordan? Didn't he say Randle was coming to UK pretty much all along? There is no such person claiming this for Giles. Seems like he's pretty solid Duke and will enjoy the process. BBM has been as much a success as a wasted effort - doesn't always equal commitments.

It's still a way longshot, but this is kind of cool. I'm trying to remember who else is supposed to come to BBM. I know Bridges and I think Alkins too right? Maybe they'll sit together and all start talking about playing together. Bridges/Giles would be a nasty forward tandem.

That is a nasty fearsome threesome.

Not sure why you say he's not considering UK, he clearly is.

I wish I could share your optimism. At least with Julius we had the USAToday reporter saying the whole time he thought it would be UK. I don't know of any media that thinks it's anyone other than Duke.

I would love to be wrong, but I've sort of checked out of Giles' recruitment.

I think Giles will go to Duke, but I think he is seriously listening to Coach Cal. He very well may be just soaking up the limelight and taking these trips where he will be a God for a weekend, some would see that as him "using UK" and get butthurt, but those are the same fans that complain about one and dones and don't get the bigger picture. Recruiting is not all fun for these kids, it's a distraction at varying levels, there is quite a bit of pressure in making the right decision for their future, and it has to be hard for someone that young to tell a Coach "no", especially if that coach has their best interests at heart. Giles deserves to have his fun, and we should all respect his process and be happy for him no matter where he decides to go. I will forever and always hate Duke, but I still understand reality.

Meh - not overly optimistic, but I still remember the Skal recruitment last year, where up to a week or so before his recruitment all we heard is that he was going to Memphis and he was a lock for Memphis.

Then Skal commits to UK, and based on his interviews afterwards, it was obvious UK lead all along.

All I know is this is an extremely closed-lip staff, and NONE of us on here really knows what they do or do not have going on - so I'm going to reserve judgement until the end. I'd put my money on Duke though.

Seems weird that Giles would want a second UK trip unless he was actually considering them. Kind of a wasted trip.

Think kyrie Erving recruitment.

You nailed it. Irving is a MUCH better example than Randle. In fact, I think Irving may have come for Madness as well, but he was never going anywhere but Duke. I understand why Cal keeps recruiting him. If something were to happen and Tatum has a change of heart and decides to stay home, then there might be a slight chance to flip Giles. Otherwise, he's going to be at Duke.

I felt like Knight was Cal's preferred target that year though. Most of us had a good feeling Knight would be a cat and I never expected Irving for that reason. To me Giles just seems like another Tatum. It's what everyone assumes and it'll probably be what happens. Though I have slightly more hope for Giles than I did Tatum.

You're right about Knight. And honestly, the way it turned out, I wouldn't have it any other way. That shot Knight made against Ohio St. is still one of my favorite moments of the Cal era.

I have learned a few things in my life and one is "never say never" Cal could steal him. We can only hope !

I agree with you on Giles recruitment kindly reminds you of Randle recruitment,

If UK lands Fox, Bridges, Monk, SKJ to go with a returning core of Ulis, Lee, Matthews, and Mulder, I'd put them up against anyone in '16-17, including a Giles/Tatum-led Duke team. When you get to the point where each team has multiple first round picks, either team has a real shot in a one game scenario.

Ulis
Fox/Mulder
Monk/ Matthews
Bridges
Lee/SKJ

remember Mudiay, Zimmerman, Newman, were all locks for UK
many people are saying Giles is a lock for Duke
we know that you should never count those chickens before they hatch

do you really think when Cal said "this could be my best class ever" that he was not including Giles?

There is a difference though. I understand your point but Mudiay was from Texas (SMU), Zimmerman from Nevada (UNLV), and Newman from Mississippi (MSU). Giles is from...North Carolina (Puke).

we can add Murray as a lock for Oregon
Wiggins a lock for UK
as others have stated Randle and Skal locks to go elsewhere

IMHO, Cal feels pretty good about Giles
i never loose hope as long as Cal is at the helm
