When our schedule came out, I like many thought it presented a great opportunity to go 10-2 and still get to Atlanta. My reasoning was as follows:
- Beat Georgia at home (difficult but doable)
- Win 1 out of 3 tough road games at Ole Miss, UT, and UF
- Win all the other games, which we will be favored in
- Need Georgia to lose another conference game so we own the tiebreaker
But after looking at UGA’s schedule, my God I don’t ever recall a weaker one. They have no challenging games outside of the one in Lexington. Their road games are @USCjr, @Mizzou, and @MSU. Of course the UF game is neutral. They get UT and Auburn at home. Obviously Oregon is a tough opponent, but means nothing in terms of winning the East.
I’m afraid we can only afford one conference loss, to somebody other than UGA, if we want to get to Atlanta.
