I was a freshman in Haggin Hall watching that game. That was March of 1984, and just now, for the first time since then, I dared watched parts of it again on youtube. With four minutes to go in the second half, we had scored two freaking points the whole half. We scored nine in the final four minutes.

Was Georgetown playing really tough defense? Yes...inside. They gave us the jump shot all half long. No one would dare take it. My God I wish I had never peeled that scab.

The 84 GT game was one of the really painful losses that I can recall. Along with 83 UL, 86 LSU, 92 Duke, 97 Arizona, 14 UConn and 15 Wisconsin. Michael Graham still haunts me. That was the FF of the big man. UK Turpin and Bowie. Georgetown Ewing. Virginia Sampson and Houston Akeem.

I watched like 10 minutes of the second half. Every time down the floor, Bowie was out at the free throw passing to this guard over here and then that guard over there. No one would shoot the wide open shot. No one would pound it inside and draw a foul, either. It was crazy. One of the worst coaching jobs ever. Makes Cal's last four minutes against Wisconsin pale by comparison.

Weren't we 3-33 in the second half? Putrid. Someone was shooting. Just not hitting.

Every time down the floor it was pass to Bowie, pass to Blackmon, pass back to Bowie, pass out to Beal. Then finally someone would drive halfway in and shoot a 15-footer that would rim out. I was watching it thinking "if defenses gave up that shot out on the wing today, they'd get blown out of the building". Granted there was no three point line for two more years, but still.
