Fun fact about Florida

Altitude could play a factor. Not sure what UF has done to prepare but 4th quarter could get weird if they overlook that aspect.

2013 we played WKU in Nashville. That was ugly. I was there. Stoops first game.
Are you trying to say Stoops AND Joker didn't have much talent to work with, due to NOTHING extra being spent on football facilities in our ADs first decade on the job?

In Florida's defense, they play FSU every other year in Tallahassee since the mid 60's and have played Miami a number of times at Miami. Over the last 17 years UK has played 1 OOC road game (not neutral site), which was in 2017 at Southern Miss. Prior to that, we played IU regularly.

It wasn't just ugly, it was inexcusable. But you can't be too mad at the players, since football had gotten ZERO extra support for close to a decade. It was only the money cow, the OTHER ADs being awake is what eventually gave us the money for football to advance.

NO real support for football for a decade had its effect.

As usual spot on.

Anyone else remember the "They sposed to be SEC" comment by the WKU player, after they beat us.
That was the 2011 game in Nashville, said during the game by a defender who had just whooped our O line & sacked Morgan Newton. We won that day, lost in OT the next yr in Commonwealth, then lost 2013 in Nashville. WKU's program has been successfully established as a winning D1 program since.

Another winning program Mitch Barnhart established, the creator of that 4 game series!

mitch established UK as the laughing stock of the SEC with his lack of support that resulted in the TWO two win seasons, both wins both years against OOC nobodies. The OTHER SEC ADs rescued us from our FIVE years in a row with no bowl games by throwing UK 20 and 30 million a year from THEIR football programs, through the SEC distribution.

FACTS.

Dispute them.

But Florida is a national title contender for close to 30 years. Teams like that are supposed to play anyone anywhere. It's not just people in this thread talking about that. The rest of the SEC has commented how little UF will travel period. They just won't go out of the SEC footprint to play. Nobody from other schools care who we open with... yet.

I hope we get to the point that we need to play a tough opener to set up a SEC run.

Gonna be very tough with their schedule for the Gators to get 6 wins

Then in 2024 they have the toughest schedule in CFB. FSU & Miami in ooc.

OP HERE. NEVER, EVER, EVER IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM QUALIFIED IT AS AN OPENER. JUST NEVER ANOTHER GAME OUT OF STATE IN ANY MONTH (non bowl season).

I understand about playing FSU and Miami but that still leaves 2 NC games a year, for 30 years, that they could have gone a little north or west for.

Thinking to myself, what is the game farthest north since IU in Bloomington the last year we played up there?

What, no one can dispute the FACTS?

What hurts them (the same thing that hurts us) is their rival they play every year is OOC with FSU. Playing then every year (just like us playing UL every year) is going to limit their Power 5 OOC games drastically. They have played Miami and FSU in the sane season 6 times in the last 20 years. I’ll never talk about a programs OOC schedule if they do that.

Meh, state of Florida had power house programs the last 30 years. Going to Miami is as much a road trip as going to Tennessee or any of our border states. Hell it’s twice as far to Miami from Gainesville than us to Indiana and Knoxville. Almost as far as us to Athens.

I agree but I'm just pointing out that many people in the SEC have been dogging UF for years about not traveling. A few year ago they had a schedule that they could have bussed to every away game and it not be crazy travel time. They could even play FSU on a neutral site to open the season but they don't. Even their bowl games are always in the deep south. You cand argue SOS but what most people who have been bashing them are looking at is the fact that they don't travel for games like every other college does.

Alabama is the scheduling coward of the SEC. Yearly under Saban they play 1 out of conference against a power 5 opponent, 3 easy G5/1-aa like UK.

And usually that 1 power 5 opponent would be at ""neutral site"" like Atlanta or Dallas - where the Bama psycho no-life fans would make up 70-80% of the attendance.

Now some want to give them credit after 15 yrs playing a home & home with Texas, lah de dah.

Cincinnati?

I'm not asking to do it every year. But one time, just one time in 20, we should've scheduled someone good OOC home and home. At Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, whoever. I don't care about bowl chances. I would gladly trade Music City Toilet bowl against Northwestern to play at a traditional power. It would be like scheduling a NY6 bowl game.

What you described is most SEC teams OOC model on scheduling each season.

With such a weak OOC offering its shocking Saban and bama have lucked into those 6 titles on his tenure not being tested each season.

Yes. Andrew Jackson. When they showed him saying "THEY POSSED TO BE SEC" I was really really in a bad place for UK football. I was thinking "cheat, spend way too much on a coach, whatever it takes." That one and the Spurrier one "I tell you one thing, Kentucky has a helluva punter." I actually laughed a bit at both of them. It hurt to much to cry, and they both was accurate of the state of UK football at the time.
