His greatest gift could have been keeping things civil between Dandy don and Howard. Great talent on the field made pro bowl at three different posistions.

Has anyone seen the old film of Gifford being tackled by Chuck Bednarik of the Eagles a long time ago; maybe in the very early 1960's. It's one of the NFL's all-time great clean hits. Bednarik hit Gifford and just flattened him. Gifford was left lying flat on his back on the field and Bednarik just stood over him looking down. I thought I read, and I may be wrong, someone from the Giants thought a priest should be notified to perform last rites over Gifford.

Paper today said he was in the hospital for ten days after that hit he was literally knocked out.
