#2 Duke, #4 Wisconsin #5 Louisville and #7 Arizona. Duke, Arizona and Wisconsin lose to unranked teams. Wisconsin loses to a team picked to finish last in the Big-10.

(Updated to include Arizona. What a weekend to get any win.)

Duke and Wisconsin lose to unranked teams in their conference on the road.

Conference play is tough, it doesn't matter what conference.

UK is 15-0. Keep going Big Blue!!!!

Nah,
What you saw was a "bad" UK win.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

UK's OT wins are more impressive then most give them credit for....especially the Ole Miss game. they held it together and got the wins.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

While all the national talking heads were hope, praying UK would lose, and asking what is wrong with UK, the rest of the biggies were getting there butts kicked.

Got to love it.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

I will speak up in defense of Wisconsin, as they did not have their best player. That said, they should still not have lost to a pathetic Rutgers team.

I agree with the OP's sentiment of the thread though. Our game yesterday looks better by the second.

There is no such thing as a "bad" win!!!! Kinda like sayin', "that was a good loss."

All wins are GREAT !!!!!

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

Yes, and throw in:

#10 Texas
#13 Notre Dame
#14 WVA
#16 Oklahoma
#22 Ohio State
#25 ODU

Yesterday.

9 out of the top 25 losing (yes, some to other top 25 teams).

Dukes' loss was by double digits. Wisconsin and Louisville now have two losses, with one 'bad' loss for Wisconsin.

As of now, a Kentucky loss that wasn't particularly ugly might only drop the Cats to #2 -- say a road loss against a Top 40 RPI team. They wouldn't be jumped by two-loss Louisville, who they beat, or two-loss Wisconsin with a loss to Rutgers and maybe not by Duke, with a decisive beating by NCState. And who knows how long Va will be without a loss -- three game stretch coming up in a couple weeks against Duke, @ UNC and against Louisville.
All that debate aside, I'll just stick to UK winning every game.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

Top Five will likely be:

1. Kentucky
2. Virginia
3. Duke
4. Gonzaga
5. Arizona

Sorry, even Cal will disagree with you on that.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

I really don't care all that much about the rankings but I doubt UK will drop from the top spot.

As for the idea that the TX A&M game was a "bad win," that's a ridiculous statement in my opinion. Had UK lost, it would have been a bad loss, but there is no such thing as a bad win. Does the selection committee take points away for "close" wins? Ha! I wonder if Duke or Wisconsin would have "settled" for a win today? Ha!

My opinion is this- the fact that our Cats played flat at times in both their SEC games and didn't play the kind of defense they're capable of playing in both games, yet still won, says that this team is pretty darn good.

Now I would like to see our Cats getting back to dominating teams, but it's not realistic to expect blowouts in league road games. I'll take wins any day, even one point wins.

Final thought: we're 2-0 in the league but could be 0-2. I'll never complain about winning.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

No such thing as a "bad win".

Now, there can be a bad performance that results in an ugly win.

Or, there can be an opponent playing the game of its life that still loses, which may constitute a survival, an escape, or an ugly win.

But a bad win? Not in my book.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

Notre Dame really played well vs. UVA and should have pulled out that win at home. UVA in their last 3 games against Miami was a Double OT Win, close game with NCState, and Notre Dame. So, all the top 10 teams have been struggling since we have all started League Play.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

Anytime you get a win its a good win, bet all of top 25 teams that lost would say the same thing.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

Surprised no one has mentioned this but Wisonsin was missing Kaminsky. They outscored Rutgers by 12 in the first half then their PG Jackson injured his right leg early in the second half.

Rutgers is bad but it's hard to win without your point guard and center.

The Kaminsky not playing thing was mentioned in the other thread. Sure, it makes a difference not having him, but Rutgers is still terrible. And UK hasn't had Poythress (okay not exactly the same, but still...) yet we managed to pull out our win.

But like I said in another thread, conference play is an entirely different animal. Anything can happen on the road no matter who you have playing or not playing, or even who the opponent is.

Too bad I don't have my Stupid Underdogs Picks contest for basketball ready. This weekend would have been raucous.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

All these losses in the top 25 could make it tougher on SEC teams to get in the NCAAT,Theams like Nova,Zags and Wichita St (and even IU)continue to filter up the polls.Nova ,the Zags and W.St are likely to stay there because they don't play anybody.

We are 2-0 but those 2 were expected wins, the only thing not expected was how hard those 2 were to get.Either UL or Duke iare going to lose this week(love being able to type that) One of OK or WVA is going to lose,(WVA could lose 2 as they play Tex also)UNC has to go to NC St. and maybe Ole Miss raises a little hell in ARK.

It is about time for Ala to throw in a clunker on Sat.

The stage appears to be being set up nicely for us,all we have to do is take advantage of the opportunity we have.

I did mention it, in this very thread.

Well, the Kaminsky part.

This loss WILL NOT prevent Wisconsin from getting a 1 seed in the tourney. Their fat lies ahead of them regardless.

Re: Three Top Five teams lose this weekend

Gonzaga should jump over Duke, as Duke lost by double digits. It wasn't a last second shot.

Whoever gives UVA first place votes does not think much of us.

I will have to disagree with you there. I've been following Kentucky basketball since 1966. You know how many wins I considered bad wins?

Exactly zero.
+ one bazillion

There is no such thing as a "bad win".

They will get some. That UVa team is an enigma. I watched them the other night and as a whole they are a good team but when you look at the individual players skill level it's not very impressive. Fundamentally sound but nothing really jumps out at you as far as things that would concern you, other than their team defense. Just proves how good a coach Bennet is. Wouldn't want him at UK but he's a great coach.
