“those who talk have a need to know. (The mother did confirm her son's move in a comment with the Charlotte Observer early this month.) It is a family matter that has been exposed somewhat publicly by a father left out of a cross-country change of schools which he opposed. Robert Dillingham is not missing, or missing out on much if anything. He is focused on basketball -- even taking official college visits, and presumably taking classes online while living in a prep-school dormitory. He is being looked after by school officials, and supported by a group of adults that includes his mother, brother and sister. Apparently, Robert Dillingham wanted to pursue an opportunity that especially appealed to him, but to which his father objected. His father had formulated a plan of the son graduating Combine Academy and possibly enrolling at UNC. Robert Dillingham went ahead in pursuit of his dream to "play with the stars" in high school, and is being assisted by family members who support that endeavor. It does not make for a bad son, or mother, or father. They all want the best for the basketball phenom; the disagreement came over which is the best basketball preparatory high school route (and likely getting paid a la Zion Williamson, Dennis Smith Jr. and others). Continued official college visits suggest his NCAA eligibility has not been compromised. Dillingham likely is out as a Carolina recruit, with the commitment of Simeon Wilcher. No talent lost, but I sure would love to see them play together.”
