Hearing that Skal is way ahead of KAT at this stage last year.

Skal is at the AD and Wall level.

We are heading in the right direction to try and compete with last year's achievements.

I sure hope he's at the same level as KAT and AD by March. If so, I don't care what else happens, UK will be in the thick of the title race.

If they get to the Final Four heres hoping that Payne says "Cal, leave these boys alone, let them play"

So instead of considering probability, let's imagine that there is some intangible quality that a coach can have where they are HOF level coaches and then they just start sucking over an arbitrary obstacle.

Self chokes to mid majors.

Miller chokes at elite 8s.

Boeheim has choked absolutely everything since Melo and then got half the seasons vacated anyways.

K chokes double digit seeds.

Roy chokes the elite 8, at the latest.

Pitino chokes somewhere from the sweet 16 to the Final Four.

Tony Bennett chokes the first weekend.

Mark few chokes the elite 8, at the latest.

Wright chokes the first weekend.

Izzo, Cal, and Ryan choke at the Final Four (Izzo and Ryan usually earlier than that)

Calhoun, right before he retired, was choking all over the place. Even his championship was surrounded on either end by a first round loss and an NIT first round loss.

The last coach to win championships more than he choked was John Wooden.

It's a shame that we have these sorry excuses for HOFers like K and Cal and Self now who have straight 5 star average rosters yet can't win 9 out of 10 championships in a decade.

4 of 6 Final Fours with a championship and another elite 8? Just don't make em like they used to anymore.

Or leave tyler in the game.

Or call a timeout after the second shot-clock violation this time

Look we get it, Cal blew it. I don't disagree with you guys at all but some have been like a broken record on this board since April. We just have to get over that loss at some point. I'm ready for the new season to start, once we're 49-1 over our last 50 games I think we'll gain a little perspective and remember how good we have it.

Hearing the praise for not only Skal and Murray, but guys like Mulder and Matthews (and even a little bit Humphries) has got me all kinds of excited for this season.

Care to tell us where you heard this from ?

Are people still worried about this upcoming season? Once we got Murray- any worry I had (which was minimal at that time anyway) went out the window. We are going to be amazing again...there is no doubt in my mind

I don't entirely disagree with your notions. In hindsight Cal clearly should have had Tyler in the game. But even if he had I don't think the twins actions would have differed much. They were accustomed to making plays late and had been successful doing such. Its harder to excuse not calling a timeout. I don't understand why he didn't and never will.

Regardless I love Cal. He is not perfect, but he's the second best college basketball coach IMO.

We're going to be awesome again this year and contend for #9. It's a great time to be a Wildcat fan.

By the way- do yourself a favor and hide the losers. It's a much better experience that way.

This was my reaction to the thread title too. I was wondering who all is he talking about that might still be worrying about this year's team. Seems like everyone is really excited about this team and what they might be able to accomplish. I know that I was already excited about the upcoming season and then, as you stated, when we got Murray that just put me over the top about what this team will be like. I think it's going to be a very exciting and fun team to watch so no worries here.

I don't see how anyone could be worried about next year. We have the best guard 3 headed monster, plus the best big man in the country.

UK would have most likely been blown out by Wisconsin if not for the twins and Towns play for the first 35 minutes. People on here saying "Shoulda played Ulis and Booker more" are just the typical Monday morning QB fools that this board always has after a loss. I agree on the TO, should have called one. That was my one big gripe with that stretch. Cal has been good at setting up high percentage scoring plays after a TO/drawing up a specific play. A score there to go up 6-7 may, and I stress MAY, have iced it.

As for this coming season, who is worried? I think most expect to have another great season and probably make a Final Four and then have a shot at a national title. Murray signing secured that, and even without him this team had a shot.

I see this as the team closest to 2012 except with a better PG. Obviously, Davis was transcendent but I believe Skal will be more than adequate. And we certainly didn't have a Jamal Murray on that 2012 team...

Does anyone on here (granted we all have blue-tinted glasses) that:
- there is a better PG in the country than Ulis
- that come March there will be a better big than Labissiere
- that once proven healthy, there will be a better physical player than Poythress
- that there could be a better pair of big guards on a team than Murray and Briscoe
- that there could be a better bench than Lee, Mulder, Humphries, Matthews, Willis, Hawkins, & maybe Wynyard

I don't believe we can match last year's numbers, they were pretty incredible but we will still outshine everyone draft night, first round and lottery

Feeling the same way. I think we're for sure one of the top 5 teams in the country and a title contender. We just might be the best team in the country, but that's yet to be seen.

As you can read above, I never mentioned KAT's playing time. Additionally, I never mentioned how the twins should not have played big minutes. Perhaps I should've added more context to my statement, I think it would have been advisable to have Tyler in the game during the last 4-5 minutes. I wouldn't probably gone with Tyler, Twins, WCS, KAT. I agree the twins played well for the first 35 minutes. And I get wanting them to handle the ball in the clutch given they'd been clutch over and over again. Ultimately you have a point about monday morning quarterback syndrome. Hindsight is always 20:20. And now a word from none other then...... Captain Hindsight!

I don't get it. Since you all signed Murray, I haven't seen one "worried" thread or post. Kentucky will be very good. Again.

I still think you lack depth in the front court, but barring injury or foul trouble, you are good there too. Skal will be very good and Your three guard combo is just stupid.

I still like my Hawks if Diallo is cleared though. Our back court is salty as Heck and Perry, Diallo, Bragg, Mickelson and Lucas are a nice set inside. Add World Games Selden and a more experienced Svi along with a healthy Greene and we are pretty stacked.

KU V UK should be a good one! Can't wait.

Ya'll win this game only because it's at the Phog. If it was on a neutral court, then UK wins.

As for interior depth, we will be fine. We have three 5-stars and a 7'0 4-star (with International experience), to play at the 4 and 5 spots. That's plenty of depth.

Pesrsonally, I'll take UK's quality inside over KU's quantity. Ya'll may have more guys, but we have more talent, IMHO.

Fair. Really depends on development, foul trouble and health. Give me Perry and Diallo from a scoring perspective and Skal and Poy defensively.

Skal may be a great scorer, but we don't know yet.

Diallo will get easy buckets due to his speed up and down. Perry gonna Perry. He will score. His "defense" still has to be put in quotation marks. If he is on Skal, Skal may go for fifty.

You are correct about Allen though. It will be a very hostile environment. We will see to that.

I'm not worried about the team. I mean, I don't think any of us really knows how good this group will be, but I expect them to be formidable. The fact that we have Ulis, Poythress, and Lee as known commodities is very helpful to me. I was a little concerned about having another scoring guard but when Murray signed that worry was alleviated.

Having said all this, I'm not buying the talk about Skal yet. I'm not doubting he will be good. He's that highly rated for a good reason. But he's thin and will likely struggle with the physicality of the college game, especially early on. I'm sure he'll be fine but I don't think it's wise to put such high expectations on him from the get go. Let's at least let him play an exhibition before we say he's ahead of Towns.

Please don't lump Skal with AD comparisons before he has played a game. AD is one of the best players to ever put on a UK jersey. He is one of the most decorated players in CBB history. He is arguably one of the best players in the NBA. Skal has barely played organized basketball the last two years. He had a back injury that kept him out for a year then the whole transfer fiasco TSAA cost him a lot of organized team practice and games. He basically has played AAU games the past two, years. Skal is a great talent and great kid, but don't put that kind of pressure on him and build expectations up when he hasn't played one minute yet.

KAT his last two years of HS was accepting national awards and playing against professionals in world games. Skal, has a ton of potential but do you think for one second Cal is going to let him play outside and shoot threes? He didn't allow KAT , and he broke wiltjers practice record of threes and outshot everyone on the team. Let's enjoy the team and the change of style with a guard heavy lineup. We all know guards win in March and there is nobody better than our guys. Throw in poythress Lee and Skal. We have a shot to be great by seasons end
