and somehow think he might be at the highest levels of college basketball and yet still be biased against us, he had a chance tonight to prove you right. We can all thank him for not blowing the whistle at the end. I know many of you won't like top hear this, but, objectively speaking, we got a break there...a huge one. We did have some calls not go our way earlier, but Gabriel easily could have been whistled there. Do I think it was right not to call it? Yes, it was probably not the contact required to cause a referee to blow the whistle, but it could have happened...and thankfully it didn't.

This was a huge win we simply had to have, like the rest in this month before we hopefully will be much healthier running the gauntlet that is February's schedule. It was great to be behind so much of the game and then take some control at the end (we do need to be better closers). So, you guys constantly griping about how bad Doug Shows might be...you may want to send him a thank you card.

According to this board, there are no good refs, so it really doesn't matter who calls our games.

Actually I think Shows was shielded by the TAM player. The ref who had the view was on the other side, and let it go.

I am surprised they didn't review the clock. Which should have had .2 or .3 left on it.

Shows was horrible tonight as was the other white guy. Sec officials keep getting worse and I didn't think it was possible. I truly think there is some kind of a conspiracy against uk after the Higgins fiasco last spring. Some of the calls in the first half were other worldly. Just ludicrous. End of rant . I hate sec basketball.

Let's not assume he 100% for sure saw the arm-grab from the right angle. For all we know, he could have been trying to see if there was anyway a Kentucky player touched that ball last before it sailed out of bounds.

I was at the game and I watched Shows throughout the game. 90% of the times he blew the whistle, it was against UK. At the end of the game, he probably didn’t have the wahoos to call it because he remembers what happened to his buddy Higgins

Shows is one of the better officials imo. He used to have a real hardon for Cal, but that seems to have disappeared. He made a couple of bad call against us tonight, but for the most part he was good. The black ref was just awful against us.

Shows is awful. Period. The block call on SKJ was just embarrassingly horrible, not to mention his overly enthusiastic block sign he made not once but twice right in front of Cal. I cringe every time I see him on the floor for one of our games.

And the horrible blocking call on Wenyen in the last minute when he was clearly set and Gilder drove out of control to the basket! Shows is totally incompetent as an official and his bias against KY creeps up at least 2-3 times in our games.

I say this with all due respect to Doug Shows. #@$! *$@
You took the words right out of my mouth! I turned the TV on and got to see about three questionable calls. I think the last one was Washington's charge for his second foul. I turned it back off. Officiating has usurped the fun out of basketball for me.....I used to watch anything as long as they had a basketball and two goals.....those days are dead.

This is why college basketball is going way of college baseball...utter joke the number of off ball fouls called.
There were two beyond horrible calls in this game...the complete head scratcher against Gabriel, and the blocking call Shows made against SKJ. Even Bilas criticized that one saying 90% of the time it goes the other way. He was being generous there...more like 98% of the time it's a charge.

Agree. hate college basketball now and watch only our games. And sometimes not even all of them.

I actually don't mind Doug Shows now. He was my most disliked ref at the beginning of the Cal era. He has been much better ever since Cal started talking to him more and got him to ref his summer camp one year.
Good post and correct. Shows hater 's haven't kept up.

Even though it wasn't Shows, why didn't you mention this, Op?
There was no foul there at all. If that was a foul then there’s a foul committed virtually every time down the court. Each game would end up a ft shooting contest and nobody wants to see that. No doubt we got a break on the final play but there certainly were plenty of terrible calls against us like this one before the last one. I’m sure that if last nights game was played at A&M Davis would’ve been at the line with a chance to win the game.

Shows has improved over the years but last night wasn’t one of his best efforts. As far as people say this board always blames the refs, it’s the exact same thing on every other board across the country. So get over yourselves.

If the ball wasn't 5 feet over his head I think he probably makes that call anyway. I don't think he didn't blow the whistle because he did us a favor. He hadn't done us any favors all night long up until that point.

Sorry gang, but those saying that there was no foul because the ball was not catchable have been watching too much NFL [laughing][laughing][laughing]. A foul is a foul, whether the player is near the ball or not....

That being said, it was nice to finally be on the favorable end of a whistle last night.

@St.PatterSoN-54- While it may still be a foul it isn't called as much because the contact didn't keep him from making a shot. Is that right? Probably not but then again sometimes refs don't blow their whistle on fouls until they see if the guy misses the shot. It happened once last night for A & M. The ref didn't blow his whistle until the A & M player missed and we got the rebound.

He has gotten a little better. He still sucks, but he wasn't the absolute shithead that he was back in 2013.

Roger Ayers on the other hand should still go kiss Calipari's ass. He's the absolute worst ref we've had since Cal has been here, even including Higgins and Sermons.

Sometimes it is almost embarrassing when my buddy ask me if I watched the game last night.......I sit and then those crooked azz officials start with their crap and I have to turn it off.......At one time I would fight my way through a concrete wall before I would miss a game......

Did you see fat boy Davis flop? Gabrielle did put a hand on him but did not push him down. The ball was way over his head. Some anti UK refs would have called a foul but it would not have been the right call. Shows got it right and in a rare instance we didn't get ripped.
