in a previous thread (which I can't locate at this time) you stated that Justus & Barbee had
screwed up the recruiting of Sallis & Hardy

Since this is a position of desperate need, could you please let the average Joe fan
in on this issue?

Also, if the problem is beyond repair, who might this inept staff try to recruit instead?

Jaden Hardy was going to commit to UK during the ESPNU game vs Bishop Gorman last year. He didn't. Justus was taken off as his lead recruiter. He was also thinking he'd be getting a HC job last year/himself and was going to be replaced. He couldn't land a layup opportunity at UNC Wilmington that Cal set him up in a great position to land. Now he's resorting to sucking up to Calipari, his family, acting like he's a male version of Angela Davis anytime he can. Most pathetic, he kissed Mike Boynton's ass publicly when Boynton and OSU trolled the **** out of UK with Cade Cunningham recruitment. He hasn't seen an ass that he can't kiss and he doesn't get things done--but he'll be first to leak **** to media and tell them why he "ALMOST" got someone or team business. Still laugh how Kyle Tucker was told by a "source" that Nick Richards was same last year prior to the season...and that wasn't word that was out among people who talk with Cal/Payne. He can't leave Lexington fast enough--but there's a loyal segment of media people who appreciate the info he leaks and others he talks with and kisses ass and fall in line.

Sallis was/still is a Justus guy......UK had lead--now UK may be in 4th or 5th.

Barbee never screwed up a recruitment-he just is easy to replace and needs to be.

When you look at any successful program there should be a clamoring for wanting to take assistants from the HC--this place has guys on staff who opponents pray aren't fired or given any chance to get another job. Thank god for Jai Lucas and just hope Calipari listens to him on player evaluations.

The program recruiting wise and performance-wise is reaching nadir. I can't think of a recruit that UK is in good shape with right now. I think we've lost Salis and maybe we have a shot at Podzienski, but I doubt it. These are not good times for the UK program. When a knife is falling off a table wise people do not try to catch it.

Question for @ralphdaltonfan . I keep seeing comments about Justus or Barbee being the lead recruiter for these important recruits, why is John Calipari not the lead recruiter anymore? He gets the credit for all these recruiting classes, yet, he's never the lead recruiter.
I feel like Cal should be the lead recruiter on any and all top 10 kids and especially guys like Hardy and Sallis.
I wouldn't trust Barbee to recruit a starving dog over to a plate full of medium rare T-bone steak chunks.
With the exception of the 2017 class and Boston & Clarke, this staff has missed on most of their top targets and all of their true top 5 transcendent players. I think it's past the point where JC needs to take the reigns back if he refuses to let go of this farm system he’s running.
IDK, maybe Cal is the closer for Barbee, Flint and Justus, I haven't seen anything that confirms that though.

Things would have to change and fast. He was a lock to UK. Now hes most likely going Pro. The development of BJ Boston and Clarke are huge red flags to top recruits. The Sallis recruitment was just a joke. This recruiting class is probably finished for UK outside of transfers.

Then why is Lucas or Cal not directly taking over the recruitment?
 
On the bright side, there will be way more high-level transfers available due to everyone being able to transfer without sitting out a year.

I think Jackson has shown flashes of greatness just being an athletic freak, that will get him in the first round if he wants to go. Boston has obviously killed his stock, kinda wonder if Clarke ever puts on a UK jersey again, gonna be interesting.

couldn't agree more about the assistant coaches...…...Justus, Barbee...…...NO ONE wants them, yet Cal keeps them and they produce zilch.

What stopped Hardy from commiting last year? Any chance he still ends up @ UK?
He is badly needed

How did UK drop from the lead to the rear on Sallis? And why is Justus still his recruiter?
The recruiting has been crap for several years with misses on most of the top targets.
This class was supposed to be so strong & it looks worse than any of them

Because Joel Justus SUCKS. Nobody on the staff can evaluate talent. If you’re “LONG” and ranked 1-45 you get an offer (batteries not included) doesn’t matter if you can’t shoot, pass or if you have no basketball IQ.

I know other teams and so called experts liked Whitney, but he is by far the worst top 10 recruit I have ever seen. I was just blown away at his lack of skill.

Let's put it this way--it took Jai Lucas signing a contract to get the best recruit in this class and yes--he is responsible for Collins--despite what you may read as a technicality. Justus is fine as a contact guy with younger players but he's out of his realm when things get down to landing elite talent. Talks a lot--and in past was talking with people back "home" (which for Justus is NC) that leaked things to other staffs and hurt UK with players they had targeted. Never met a camera/podcast he won't speak flock to and I just wish he'd have landed the layup job gifted him......then he'd be out and Lucas would potentially have another killer with him.

Lucas is outstanding hire. Best hire since Payne (remember KP was brought in a year after Cal took over with Antigua, Strickland, etc..)

Whitney is a kid Cal fell in love with-the entire staff tried to talk him out of that one and he went rogue and just saw something they all didn't. He was at an event in WI for Mid July Live period and stayed an extra day for Whitney.

Honestly, as strange as this sounds, that’s a good year when UK only has 4 or 5 leaving. It’s when the whole roster bolts is when we have a problem.
Let’s hope the coaches get it together. I a question for you though, do you think Calipari can turn this around by next season and do you think it will be tough replacing him if he were to leave on his own accord?

That's what Cal has done to this fanbase. 4-5 players leaving on a team that currently sits at 4-8. Clarke has played 7-8 games. Good grief. The whole thing needs needs tore down.

Not all are NBA bound that are likely to leave. Transfers who won't have to sit out in some cases.
