How many of you "idiots" have been in the situation the guys from Vandy were in today? Since you refer to their players as "idiots" I doubt not many if any. I felt bad for Fisher-Davis of Vandy when he fouled the Northwestern player to send him to the line. He will never forget that moment. I agree that Lachance should have taken a couple of more dribbles instead to taking the long 3.

I have never been in that situation.

However, that doesn't change the fact that it was idiotic.

Even though it was dumb I felt bad for him. That shot was nearly equally as bad. You just drove to the hoop for two. Why shoot thar.

I thought LaChance had a good look...he followed through like he thought he'd nailed it (similar to the one he just made). I don't think it was a bad shot...it's what they do. The layup he made was a tougher shot than the three.

The NCAA Tournament does not like Black and Gold.

Missouri
Purdue
Vandy

Take a look at the tourney history for all 3 of those schools. Pretty much nothing but relentless heartbreak.

Leave Vandy players alone!

Never trust the SEC in the NCAA tournament.
I seem to get burned every year, because I don't learn this lesson. I had a perfect bracket until Vandy messed it up. I have to just stop having any faith in the SEC when it comes to basketball, particularly Vandy. The Dores look like title contenders against us and then fold like a cheap lawn chair during the Tournament.

I know Fisher Davis and LaChance made some mistakes at the end (sorry, shooting a 28 footer when you're down 1 is a terrible idea), they were seriously off from long range for a good part of the game.

When they came to Rupp in February they couldn't miss. They were on fire the whole first half and looked like a really good team.

But, it's the old adage, live by the 3, die by the 3.

Cal says it all the time, depending on outside shooting is going to bite you, you're a gimmick and a fraud.

IMO, the Davis thing was more excusable than the Lachance shot. First, the Davis foul was a spontaneous mistake. In fact, one could take the position that they'd rather the opponent have to make two free throws than take the chance of their milking the clock, scoring and leaving vandy little time to counter. Whereas, the Lachance shot was deliberate. He made up his mind he was going to take that shot. Wouldn't have mattered if another person was open, he was going to take the three. IMO, they'd have been much better off working the ball and taking the first decent shot they had. They had a lot of time and he blew it.

These are players at the division 1 level playing in the ultimate tournament. To be in this position is what every player should strive for and when that lofty goal is reached, the game should not be lost because of such extremely poor decisions. It is OK to lose because you just are not as good as the other team but to make such stupid fouls or to make such poor decisions on shot selection is simply not acceptable. Vandy should not have been in the tournament to begin with but since they were they cannot be excused for playing with such a lack of intelligence.

I totally agree.

Just like the Humphries ball spike last year. I just feel awful for these kids. Last year I kept thinking, If the tech wasn't called, we would have won the game and got a better seed and may have gone further in the tourney. I hate to think about it that way. What's done is done..
We can eventually move on, and we forgive these kids that get caught in the moment and have a momentary lapse in common sense, but I'm sure it eats at them for a long time. I'm over what happened as a result of the Humphries tech last year, but when I think about how he must have felt, that is what still stings to think about.

I wasn't given tuition, room, board stipend or crazy amounts of attention when I was in college. They were and the reason was because they play a game pretty much for a living.

If that's not reason enough to know the score and situation of a game then I'm not sure what is.

I was at the game. Feel terrible for the kid, his play had helped get Vandy back in the game and then to do that. I thought when Lechance put up the 30 footer it was going in. Vanyd did shoot a lot of deep 3's not just that one and It hurt them.

Good thing Davis and lachance don't go to unc....they'd both get an "F" in their bball class.

I could not agree more. There have been plenty of times when I have felt a team has played too passively, let the other milk the clock down to the last ticks and then have to depend on their defense to get one last stop, one last rebound. Now, I think I would've tried to foul someone other than an 86% FT shooter but, realizing it's against conventional wisdom, I think I'd rather take my chances with MY team with the ball, milking the clock and winning/losing on the ability of MY guys creating and making a decent shot. I know it's against 'the book' but how many guys can consistently step up to the line with the ball game on the line and drill 2? In my experience, few. And, even if he does drill two, then you've got plenty of time to work the ball and get a good shot for the win. I think I'd rather be on offense to win than be on defense, more times than not.

Just my .02.

Exactly. MFD play was just one of those things. We never know how we'll react to a situation like that until it comes up. Probably a combination of rehearsing in his mind what to do if VU missed the shot, looking at Bryce who was pointing at his guy, and overexuberance. Good kid, turned around his season, played a good game Thursday. Brutal ending but I'm not going to berate him. Hope he comes back.

Different coach SOS, never pick Vandy in the NCAAT

Big difference losing a 4-13 game or an 8-9 game, which by definition is almost a tossup. This was Bryce Drew's first season with a team that, in January, looked like it wouldn't even be allowed to buy a ticket to watch the NCAA tournament. Small sample, very good coaching job so far. I kind of like that y'all will be picking against us every year. I don't think it will help your bracket. Time will tell.

Congrats on the win today.
