Florida Gators
Overall record: 10-7 (EDITED: I thought they had 11 wins, but it was only 10)
Conference record: 3-1
Record vs top 25: 0-2
Record vs top 50: 1-6
Top 50 wins: 1 (at SC)
Bad losses: 1 Florida St (now #148)
Remaining games vs top 25: 2 (UK x2)
Remaining games vs top 50: 6
KenPom projected record: 18-13 (11-7)

Florida has 0 quality wins nonconference. That hurts big time, especially with the perception of the SEC this season, which is that it's down. They only have 2 more chances at a top 25 and both are against UK, which are likely losses.

Their resume is terrible right now, and the loss to Georgia only compounds the problem. If kenpom is right and they finish 11-7 in the SEC, they're looking at the NIT. Even if they finish 13-5 in the SEC, they'd be 20-11 with no quality wins.

Their best chance of making the NCAAT may be to beat UK or win the SEC-T and those both seem unlikely right now. I'm thinking it's NIT for the Gators.

worse than that...they are only averaging 67 ppg....180th in the nation. which means they dont score well. a number that will probably dip even more as we get into conference play. which just opens you up to being more beatable, especially on the road.

They only have two option.
1. Beat kentucky
2. Win SEC tourney.

Both highly unlikely. This team is at best going to NIT.

Add to this the other remaining games they have, probably an 11 loss season is the best they can do.Their situation is not unlike most of the teams in the SEC this year, just about everyone is going to end up with at least 5 or 6 losses(except UK)Fla has no margin for error

You're right but I think that is highly unlikely based on how they have looked this season. They just aren't a very good team and have weaknesses being exposed. I guess they could get it on track but I just don't see it happening.

Main reason they only score 67 a game is because they rank 306th in pace. Their adjusted efficiency actually ranks 54th.

The main reason they are in this position is that when you rely on 5 starting seniors the prior year you don't have any experience to fill the void when they all leave. This is on the coach and no one else.

In 1976 I moved to Florida and for years I made Florida my second team. For 15 years I made a lot of Florida games and enjoyed it.

In the last three years their fans have turned me off and last year it was not bearable. So I now hope that Florida loses a bunch of SEC games this year and miss the NCAA just for their fans.

This time last year several of them were over here rubbing in every UK loss and many this summer were telling us that Florida's system would possibly produce a better team this year than UK.

They need a lesson. You do note that few are on here now. It would be nice to see Williamson and Austin back here so we could rub some salt into their wounds.

It would take a miracle. I'd say it is far more likely they lose both times to Kentucky PLUS 3 others before the tournament.

i am from Louisville but have lived in Jacksonville since i was a kid so i have put up with UF fans since 86 and in bball they only ever act like they are a thing when they are top 10 . Right now not a single UF fan even acts like they have a team and that's why i despise them.

FL has to play LSU and Ole Miss this week...they could lose both, 1-1 or win both. I'd lean towards the middle one. They are too inconsistent to make the tourney.

Where is MJWILLIAMS and the ofher Florida basketball fans that were a common theme around here in 06/07/08? Some were here last year and I've seen zero as of late.

i Suspect they will lose both . If they had to win one though i hope they win against LSU as Ole miss needs more wins like that to get on the correct side on the tourney bubble .

I agree with the win total. I also agree that the Gators are probably NIT bound. My team is just not jelling very well this year.

But Florida having to play a tough SEC schedule, if not the toughest SEC schedule, is nothing unusual. Last year Flordia played the only two NCAA teams three time each.

I am here every day. I have been since this board started out as The Cats Pause.

But it is good to see you in this thread.

Sorry to edit; however, I forgot to add that there are no more Kentucky threads on Nuttin'ButNet anymore. They used to have a thread for all the UK games but interest has really fallen off and now the subjects are about Bus trips, implosions, etc.

One big Florida fans Saturday was inquiring why Devon Walker was not playing. He had not checked in since last summer.

The other Walker (Chris the pot smoker) is defended as a developing great player. They say Donovan is the best at developing a big man, yet Walker came in last year and now a year later ain't great. I say Donovan is failing totally on his development yet the Gators talk about him going pro this year and other more realistic folks think he stinks.

Oh what a difference a year makes.

Florida is NIT bound, I would rate them below Bama or about 7th or 8th in conference at best.

Exactly. If CW was having the career he's had at Florida at UK, he'd be exhibit A on why Cal is an incompetent coach.

Actually - it'd be more than that. He'd be proof Cal was dirty just for having recruited him. Funny how the dialogue changes when things are reversed...

Even if they go to the NIT, not one single fan of theirs will care. It's why Donovan loves it there and I can't see him leaving.

Yeah, not buying that. He is better than both of them by far, not saying a lot, but it is true.

Walker's stats of 5+ points and 4+ rebounds this year are stats those two could only dream of getting to.

He is not better then WOO ,Shag i guess but Woo in his last year was dependable at least . Walker is anything but . He looks like someone put a bball in his hands and he was like WTF is this ? that is the best way to describe it . One of the weirder things i have ever seen . On what world should that guy ever of been a top 75 recruit? So he can jump out of the gym - wow big deal .

So watching some of the high school ball today on the MotherShip and listening to the Dooshers talk about Billy D's recruiting haul, one would think he would be back in the Top 5 next year. Then again, they made LSUs sound like National Champion material.

Has Billy D's ship sailed or is this just one of those dips?

I think it was our last game I heard an announcer say Donovan has a rule that if you pass it to Walker outside of 10 feet or something like that and he shoots it you come out of the game

Reminds me of Kentucky in 2013 basically we were in the same situation and still didn't make it after beating Florida.

UK 2013 is twice this Florida team.

They lost tonight at home to LSU. Do they make the NIT?

Yep, losing at home to LSU tonight has officially put them in desperation mode, in my opinion. NIT seems likely at this point.

Uconn, MSU and Florida are all in major risk of missing the tournament. Think about that.. Not often you're going to see all three miss it.

that is hilarious. Woo is awesome as a person but Woo's best year he averaged 7 minutes a game with 2 points and 1 rebound. He never scored in double figures or had double digits in rebounds one time ever in 4 years. Chris Walker has issues that aren't related to basketball. I've seen him play in person multiple times on the Florida Rams with Kasey Hill and he controlled games against other elite level players. He needed to play for a coach for could have tapped into his psyche and abilities better. Billy learned from Rick, that's why he trashed the twins and cut them from the USA U18 team that he coaches it's one way and your a square peg you either break yourself fitting in the round hole or he's got no use for you. Obviously a guy like Cal would have done better with him but honestly I think he should transfer to Iowa St. Fred Hoiberg is a hell of a coach and player's guy. He has been able to work with a lot of guys and get their best efforts.

UF is going to need to win the SEC tourney to get in; not that anyone in Gainesville cares.

We have a few people in this thread giving the gators 11 wins on the year. They are 10-8 and might not get 11 until at least next week. NIT is probably a best case scenario for them right now because they're going to be on the bubble for that thing too.

Florida could realistically lose any or all of their next 4 games leading into the UK game in Gainesville.

at Ole Miss
at Alabama
Arkansas
at Vanderbilt

I expect them to go 1-3 or 2-2. So they will be 11-11 or 12-10 and reeling when the Cats come to town and pounce on them.

I think Florida finishes 16-15 this year. And these days that may not even get them into the NIT.

The best I could seeing them finish is 19-12 and that is only if they start playing a whole lot better. Either way, they won't be in the Big Dance come March.

Haven't really seen Florida play but a few minutes but I thot they were better than this. Put a fork in 'em. I'm sure they will give great effort though in at least two more games. Yet, they might have given up by the time those games roll around.

Gator fans are baffled by this team. Granted, our players are not all-stars, but the team we had last year was not
exactly all-stars either and they went to Final 4. Our two best players on that team .... Pat Young is playing
in Turkey and Scottie Wilbekin is playing in Australia .... no interest from NBA or Europe.

It is almost a Murphy's Law thing .... whatever can go wrong will go wrong.

Billy is frustrated. Monday, he sent the whole team home from practice after 10 minutes, had them come back
at 8 PM for practice. Then he held a full practice the morning of the LSU game. (Doesn't sound smart to me. Our three balls
seemed to all be short. Would tired legs cause that?)

Lot of concerns, but biggest to me ....

We can't make lay ups. Seriously. We miss MANY. Against LSU one time we put up four point blank shots on
one possession (like volleyball!). Missed every one.

Walker with his freakish athletic ability, just can't play the game well. One of our posters said it well .... when Chris
gets a ball in his hands, he freaks out. Last night he got a pass underneath, made a ball fake, then reached around
under the hoop and missed a lay up. THERE WAS NOBODY THERE. When he first got the ball, he could have
stuffed it.

Something bad has gotten into Mike Frazier's head. This kid is pure shooter like Lee Humphrey, but he just
won't shoot any more.

We just keep hoping. Billy is a great coach; he will figure something out.

You gotta understand i am only going by what i have seen with my eyes . Now i believe you that in other forums he might of been a star and obviously he is 10x more talented then WOO but i am talking about actually showing that talent and he looks HORRIBLE OUT THERE. The walk on Kurtz is a better player. Just the facts . I don't know why he is so bad but he is . No way in hell he ever makes an NBA although some moron will draft him b/c he can jump outta the gym.

this is exactly what i am talking about . It is like some put a ball in Walker's hands and he like WTF is this ? It is like if a time traveler went to the 1200's and brought back a Serf who was 6'10 and put a basketball in his hands . He would be like huh? And that is Chris walker in a nut shell.

Wow, I don't know how I managed to do this, but you're right CatFan. Florida only has 10 wins. I will go back and edit the original post.
