his name in the transfer portal. Seems like that would be of interest to our coaching staff.

NIL deal would be worth it. Not often does the long snapper lose a game but we’d be 6-1 with a solid snapper, probably 7-0 since that loss most certainly led to the SC debacle.

We first need to hire a full time ST coach. The QC coach isn't getting it done. We can't even snap the ball and that has lead to several missed FG's and XP's. We've also given up several untimely long returns. As close as Stoops likes to keep these games he needs a dedicated ST coach.

Ill coach em.

Long snappers are drafted pretty consistently these days in the 5th - 6th round area. They are being drafted more often than Kickers and Punters combined. We recruit kickers, but not Long Snappers.

UK continues to refuse to invest 5 minutes in recruiting a quality Long Snapper. They had their chance for next season to have an All-American Long snapper with six years experience, and who has been ranked number 1 or 2 the entire time by ProKicker headed by Ray Guy. Never has had a single miss fire in a game over the last 4 years. 6' 230 lbs.

UK has ignored him at every opportunity, so he will be attending another University now. Their previous Long Snapper is in the NFL.

Who?

Sign him up and put a jersey on him this weekend, our current long snapper has killed us this season.

I'm holding onto the slim hope that Dingle will cross-train as a long snapper so that he can snap the ball to Berry, who it seems will be our starting punter next year. I wanna hear Tom Hart say "Snapping the ball is Dingle, Berry back to punt." You know he totally would too.

MAKE IT HAPPEN, STOOPS!

I never considered this until this thread but most players get cool highlight photos in articles. WR making a spectacular catch, or even a lineman engaged in a fierce battle.

Every long snapper highlight is some dude bent over. No glory in that position but so vital as we’ve seen this season.

My nephew. I was a walk on punter in 1978, and got nothing from anyone at UK when myself, the Prokicker team and his High School coach reached out about him. I am not going into further detail because he has another offer on the table already, and a couple more that will probably come through at Wisconsin and Georgia Tech.

He will not come to UK now, even if they were to develop interest, all because of how they kept staying with the kid that cost us at least 2 games this year. He knows every long snapper that came through ProKicker. He knows the guys at UK. There is another reliable Long Snapper on the team.

I know when I was on the team in 78, it was pointed out to me that all of the holders, for years, got the position by having someone "Donate" some money to the program. Maybe that is still a thing today for Holders and Long Snappers? I will say UK's holder is awesome. He has saved our hide more than any of you would ever notice.

We had the same guy the last several years. Every phase looked good when they had good players. We all complained about the return game but turns out we needed a return guy.

Kicking used to be solid now we have issues and it mostly starts with the long snapper. His snaps are awful and as another poster pointed out, poore has saved us more times than not. However it also disrupts rhythm and caused some misses which now is in the head of ruffalo.

You’re a little off on your info in the first paragraph. Since 2015, there have been 4 times as many punters/kickers drafted than long snappers.

I wonder if this guy Vince Dooley was talking about from William and Mary has any eligibility left. I hear he's the best.

I understand our QC coach is also a former military intelligence officer.

Wrong. Plenty have noticed and countless times. Snapping isn't rocket science, and it doesn't take a genius to see when a holder makes a good hold from a bad snap.

I get it you're pissed that UK didn't respond when they're very short on scholarships. It sucks that your nephew wasn't offered. Yet, if there are already better long snappers on the team, why would they offer your nephew?

What you may not have noticed in your bitterness is that the current long snappers, while sucking miserably at snapping for kicks this year, have been very influential in punt coverage downfield.

note- If you want sympathy in the future, you might try not to insult the people before whom you are bitchin. Makes me wonder if you're the reason your nephew didn't receive a returned call....

Back in the horrible days of UK football we had a dozen or more kids on the roster that were "legacy" kids. Basically kids that had money or some other sort of link through the university.

I did not quote a time frame. You went back 7 years. The phenomenon I am talking about is the last three or four years.

You are just a typical online delight, aren't you? .Do you just attack random people at work like that?

You literally took offense because I said the holder had saved us more than people realize? Seriously? I didn't realize everyone focuses on the Long snappers from the snap to tackle like I do. You tend to miss a ton of action, but that is how I watch special teams. Good to know you are just as interested.

Back to the subject, we are not upset at all. Would we all have preferred he went to UK? Absolutely.

The kid has been to visits (not just camps) at Wisconsin (twice) Georgia Tech, University of Chicago, Yale and too many others for me to remember. I love UK, but now the kid will succeed somewhere else. That's all.

No sore feelings here. Just a solution to an obvious problem. If your kid was 6'2" 240 and ran a 4.3 40, was a two time All American running back, and got no attention from a favorite school, while others are actively recruiting them, most people would be scratching their heads like we are.

Yes we wanted him at UK. It isn't happening. I am just explaining their LS issues could have gone away.

I will look you up when my nephew is in the NFL in four years. That has been the only football goal since he was in the sixth grade and he is on track. We can talk about it all then.

So did you want a full ride for him? I see where you mention Yale and GaT so I'm assuming he's a very good student. What about an academic scholarship? I think I've seen you mention him here before. Doesn't he play at Trinity?

He lives in Gainsville. Definitely not going to Florida.

He is an outstanding student and does not require a scholarship. We have understood the scholarship situation for Long snappers. Basically nothing until you are a starter, and maybe not then. Not a deal breaker for my nephew.

His National Merit scholarship testing placed him in the 99 percentile. He has already been preapproved for enrolment at the top 100 academic Universities in America based on those scores. Had he attended UK he would get a full academic scholarship because of his grades and being from outside of Kentucky.

His dad and I developed this plan six years ago so we could get him into an Ivy school. The plan worked beyond expectations.

Thanks for that cross check.

I should have been clearer. Just the fact that 4 LS were drafted over the last 4 years, should tell UK to pick up their game and take the position seriously. Many other teams are already.

So he could walk on? I'm not exactly getting the issue here. If he could go to UK for free and that's where you wanted him to go, but then all this was set up for him to go Ivy League...what's the beef?

I agree that it’s a position to pay attention to. The crazy thing is, prior to this year, long snapping was not an issue. We had Blake Best who started from 2016 - 2019 and was perfect. Then, we moved to Cade Degraw, who was highly rated out of high school and started for us in 2020 and 2021 and was great. Clay Perry has also snapped pretty well for the Cats prior to this year.

UK has offered a spot to one of the best long snappers in the class of 2023 in Walker Himebauch and he has a ton of UK stuff on his Twitter, so I think he is the primary target for them.

As for ST, kicking has been an issue this year, but I feel like out coverage team as well as our KR and PR have been great. It's such a mental game. Chance Poore came to UK as the #1 ranked kicker in the nation and couldn't win the job. Wilson Berry came to UK as the #7 punter in his recruiting class and has sucked.

I'm not sure what a full-time ST coach would do. There is a reason why more than half of the teams in the SEC don't have a dedicated ST coach.

Don't know about this , but we know that ST has probably cost us dearly this year. Strange that maybe our best punter and fg kicker in school history couldn't get a cup of coffee in the nfl
