Paul had Matt Jones on his show on the SEC network. Nothing earth shattering, just a few continued lightly veiled shots at Cal and UK fans.

One thing stuck out to me, however. After a bit of a diatribe over officuating, Jones asked him directly if he had ever complained about officiating. Finebaum said that he sure had, just a week ago with Arkansas.

So apparently, Arkansas received a royal screwjob, but UK fans are overreacting. What a dufus!

All he thinks about is making Nick Saban happy.

Complaining is one thing, making highlight videos of missed calls and harassing a guy and his business is another.

Agree that harassing someone's business or making physical threats is off limits, but making highlight videos of bad calls?

I wish people made more such videos. In fact I'd like to see it after EVERY game. The NCAA has made it virtually impossible to keep rogue referees in check.

Having evidence of egregiously bad calls following certain referees around I think would go a long way towards drumming out incompetent refs & spurring others to improve & strive to do a fair job each time they call a game.

The NBA has a much tighter control over their refs & the result is much better consistency & much higher quality than you see in the NCAA.

For training purposes they'd be great, but to show how you think your team got screwed?

And isn't it interesting both Arkansas and UK were playing North Carolina.

Never forget that

For those who may be too young, the absolute biggest screw job ever was in the early 80's when Arkansas played UNC. The officiating got so bad that at one point Eddie Sutton decided to go sit in the stands.

At the time, I kind of liked UNC and didn't know anything about Arkansas. That game, more than anything, made me dislike the Tar Heels.

I think it's pretty crazy and egregious to attack someone personally and their business. However let's not act like Finebaum didn't discuss ad nauseum the pick play in the national championship game and didn't criticize those officials for failing to call that.

I remember that one well.

One sided videos where only the missed calls favoring one team are shown are meaningless. If you wanted to make a video that meant somethign you'd have to have all of his calls, and missed calls, on one video, chart how many calls that were made correctly, and how many that were incorrect and how many that were missed, compare those to the total calls, and also compare how many were missed for each team.

Videos where you simply show the bad calls against UK are chalked up as simply whining about the refs to everyone besides the fringe. It's the same thing we make fun of UofL fans for.

Certainly if someone puts together a one-sided or misleading video, they themselves should be called out for it.

But that's not reason enough not to put something together at all. I'm for more review & scrutiny of referees calls than there currently is. If that means fans of opposing teams post their own videos, then so be it. If that means looking at every single call a ref made (both good and bad), then that's fine as well.

Ultimately the evidence will be judged on its own merits.

FWIW, I've long advocated & posted before a proposal which hopefully makes referees more accountable to the public. It allows for specific questions to be posed by representatives of both teams.

I listen to Finebaum frequently.

He is neither a "dufus" nor an "idiot."

Unlike media people such as Cowherd, Bayless, and Stephen A. Smith, Finebaum tries to stay neutral.

Yes, he has his favorites that he likes and respects, Calipari is among them.

There is an implication in this thread that Finebaum was attacking Kentucky fans. He did not.

He hosted Matt Jones as his guest and gave Matt plenty of room.

The NCAA and UNC screwed TWO teams in a week's time.. not just one. That's what is lost in all this.

EVERYONE was furious about how Arky got screwed. Not just Arky fans.. anyone with a damn bracket who watches the games. It was one of the biggest stories of the weekend.. it was talked about at the water cooler.

Why? If trying to prove he cheated is wrong, then you suggest we do nothing about it? It is justified to harass the guy for what he did. What goes around, comes around.
Da_Bull, you are full of Bull.

No, he was busy missing a goaltending call in Salt Lake that weekend.

That's interesting. If he was doing games in Salt Lake City, why wouldn't they just keep him out West for the following weekends games in San Jose instead of moving him across the country to Memphis?

This is the problem. I'm suggesting you don't try to mess with a guys livelihood because of your perceived slight by his officiating during a basketball game. That's the definition of pathetic.

I don't know how/why they decide that. It's supposed to be random. Fair and balanced, I guess.
