I really enjoyed John Clay's article in the Herald Leader about Cal's marketing ploys. The guy is a genius in recruiting, and I am amused at how the fans buy into every bit of it. I remember the 'dribble drive offense' that everyone talked about when he first arrived. I kept looking for it, but never really saw it put into action very much, if any, in his first couple years. And, then this past year all we heard was platoon. The platoon didn't last long at all. He used it in some of the exhibition games last summer and in the first few games of the season. That was it. Even before Poythress' injury, the true platoon was gone. But, to hear some talk, we used it all year. Now he is coming out with the 'position-less player'. Sure, we had some guys who were versatile last year, but let's be real; did Dakari Johnson ever run the point or Tyler Ulis play in the post. Cal really is a marketing genius when it comes to recruiting. He is always coming up with a new tweak when looking to reel in the next crop of talent. I love it, but I get amused at how many fans buy totally in to it without seeing it for what it really is.
