I can't wait to see this guy. He must have been very impressive in camp and the practices.

The New York Giants had tall corners and safeties back in the late 90's. They had good success with the lineup. You just have to be able to change direction like the smaller WR can. Very excited to see what this defense can do.

The smaller wide receivers typically don't play in the boundary. They play the field because they're faster and shiftier for the most part so they have more space to work. The boundary is typically saved for the 6'4"++ wide receivers. That's why Tiller had so many problems. Every single WR he guarded dwarfed him on his side and he couldn't physically match up. Westry will have some growing pains but I hope we are able to stick with him the whole year. He will be a super star here.

Good point. When you have guys on the field with this type of length, it can't hurt. Very excited about the defense and all the new pieces.

The current seahawks have some tall guys in their secondary too.

the only significant reason for concern is he will be facing a much more experienced and stronger player across from him as ULL's best receiver is a 6'4 205 lb RS Jr. that was all-conference before an injury.

Bottom line - should be a good first game test for Westry before diving right into the SEC.

I believe that Chris Westry raises the ceiling of our defense this season. I am very excited about where stoops is taking us. I cant wait until a few years from now when our CB depth looks like:

- Westry
- Baity
- Randolph
- Beckham
- Jordan Griffin
- Davonte Robinson
- Gilliam

Not too mention our Safety depth, which might be even better :boxing:

I like the idea of bigger corners but as kybluedude said, Freshmen playing in the SEC are not comforting. Mistakes will be made at this toughest defensive position to play. We need to realize that and not get down on Westry and Baity when they make a mistake. I like having them back there.

I'm excited to see how quickly he develops now that Stoops is helping so much with the DB's.

Stoops called the freshmen who are starting "game changers." They are starting because they won the jobs. So, they will probably be better in the SEC than those they unseated.

Lets be brutally honest, our defense is not going to be good anyway, too many holes at linebacker & inexperience at DE. Might as well get Westry & Baitey experience, it ain't like Tiller or Quinn would make a helluvalot of difference keeping the substantial amount of points we are gonna give up down. Plus these first 3 weeks we are playing teams with huge quarterback question marks; lets get these true frosh burned in the fire of experience so they are ready to make plays against Mizzou, Auburn, Miss St, UT.

In this point of the rebuilding process, it will be refreshing to see us lose some 1 on 1 battles due to inexperience, rather than inability.

Can't be worse than 2 touchdown Tiller, if Westry only gives up one a game he will be a lot better than Tiller. From what I have seen so far (which isn't a lot) Westry looks the part and definitely has the size and speed to play the position. He also seems to have pretty fluid hips, which is a huge plus for a guy his height.

I have heard Stoops speak enough to think that he is tempering his excitement about this guy. I don't think this is any sort of desperation move-we have experience there and it would be safe to start Tiller or Harmon. I think CMS thinks he is going to be a stud.

Anybody know what his 40 time was? I'm a HUGE proponent of big corners, ESPECIALLY in college. Generally they can make up for any speed advantages with length, and prevent a number of throws just by obscuring the QB's vision. Super pumped to see Westry get experience now. It pays major dividends down the road.

In a league where we'll be seeing guys built like Amari Cooper, Julio Jones and AJ Green, we're going to need big corners (not them obviously, but that level of talent and size at WR). I'd rather gamble on a guy that could have the ability to cover them, rather than settle for a more experienced guy you know doesn't have a real chance physically.

He was said to be top 3 fastest on the team so 4.40 is probably accurate

Fluid hips are the unspoken key to an SEC championship. Bama has those hips in droves

He must have them. Stoops has not thrown young CBs into the mix just because they were fast. Seems Westry has high potential. Mao much so, that Tucker is not even on the depth chart, even though we heard good things about him last year. Baity and Westry must be good.

SEC OCs will pick on him early and often. He'll make mistakes, he'll get burned, he'll make misplays. But he'll learn and how quickly he learns will be the key both for him and for UK.

Obviously it's a huge advantage to have a CB that can matchup with some of those big X receivers we face this year, but what I'm interested in seeing is how well he can stay with 5' 10" receiver like Pharaoh Cooper who he'll likely meet up with next week, and if he has the size mismatch will Elliot go ahead and let him play bump and run coverage or play it safe. If he can cover or man handle the little guys than he may be the complete package.
