So Evan will be breaking down how the basketball Gods could potentially kick us in the nards today?

I kid, I kid.

They said he'll be on around 10:45. He might have some... not entirely dejecting news/insight?

Don't listen. He's gonna say we will miss out on Brown and Murray. Hopefully Matt will ask him our chances with some of the guys in the 16 class.

Well, the way things have been going... that'd probably be enough for Kermit to break out the lotion!

Daniels talking fair in our option for Murray.....50/50 with Oregon.....that's insider info right there! A great shot if Murray comes to campus.

On Brown, truth is no one knows......you hear Michigan when the media talks. I don't think the media wants to talk up Kentucky, at any level.

Did Evan say that or are those your words?

- Said 50/50 we get Brown or Murray
- Cal, UNC, UK, and Michigan visited with Brown in his home last week
- Brown keeping everyone in the dark but all the buzz is for Michigan
- Daniels has seen Murray a lot, plays at a higher level in the all-star type games then he normally does
- Decent chance with Murray if Calipari can get him on campus
- Thinks there is a good chance that Murray doesn't re-classify. Could stay in high school one more year and go straight to NBA
- UK missing on all these guys is the randomness of this class, they are a "different group", doesn't think there is any one reason or a trend leading to Cal missing on all of them
- Daniels has no idea if Skal will be eligible, total unknown at this point
- 2016: thinks Cal will get 2-3 of the top guys. Thinks Kobi Simmons will be the focus of Cal's efforts
- Charles Matthews: Daniels compared him to DeAndre Liggins. Good defender, decent ball handler, not a great offensive player
- Shaun Kirk: visiting UK this weekend, undersized power forward, great athlete, 3 star prospect

Not trying to be a debbie downer, but I think it's safe to say we could go ahead and cancel the season next year if Skal is unable to play

He's a good student. Plus, the kid is a survivor of the Haitian earthquake. You really think the NCAA wants that bad press?

No one wants Brown at UK other than UK fans/staff. If UK had Brown there wouldn't be any weakness. Two top 5 draft picks and 3 lottery picks. If UK doesn't get Brown I'll never understand why he passed on this situation. Come play for one season on the best team in the biggest spotlight.

Ulis/Briscoe/Hawkins
Briscoe/Mulder
Brown/Matthews/Willis
Poythress/Lee
Skal/Lee

Makes sense for him to come here.

This is the point I made about the media showing zero momentum for Kentucky. Daniels mentioned we have a great chance at Murray, but nothing similar with Brown.

He compared Charles Matthews to DeAndre Liggins which I don't see AT ALL. Liggins was kind of a big point guard out of high school, but Charles is more of a SG/SF type player who can slash to the rim and take people off the dribble and a hell of a lot more athletic than Liggins was. He also basically said that Matthews can't shoot but I guess he hasn't seen him lately because his shot has improved tremendously over the last year in my opinion (especially his perimeter shot).

I'm sure you are saying that in jest....maybe not. However, I've been around for a long, long time and have seen good coaches adapt to their personnel. It made for some exciting basketball other than just pounding it in the middle all the time. The most recent would be in '92 with Farmer, Pelphrey, Woods, Feldhaus, and Mashburn. Wasn't the great talents, but they were very exciting to watch and came within the smallest of margins of going to a final four.

What Pitino did with that team was purely magic. Now whether Cal can do that remains to be seen.

Daniels may have scoop on recruits but has zero knowledge on analyzing a kids game. I refuse to listen to anyone that has never played the game on any level try and tell me how good of player someone is.

I don't think the Matthews/Liggins comparison is dead-on either. Matthews moves more like a young Derek Anderson. Not saying he'll be as good as Anderson, obviously.

Actually Daniels said that it is 50/50 on Murray reclassifying and be gives us a 50/50 chance with Brown.

I agree. He's got the story, and he'll play... especially while the NCAA is still trying to cover up the UNCheat situation. Heck, Kanter might've even been eligible, if that story had made the big headlines back then.

So you'd never listen to Daryl Morey, a top 10 NBA gm? This logic is very outdated.

Nope never listened to Darrle Morley and i stick by the fact that if you havent participated in an activity your opinion is not as valued.

UK will have a great 2016 class and will land at least 3 top guys IMO.

Cal has said we would add 1 or maybe 2 more. That was before Mulder. If he felt good about one of Maker, Murray or Brown - I doubt he would have offered Kirk. I hope I am wrong, but that doesn't seem to make sense. Maybe Cal is in the dark, like all the analysts, when it comes to Brown and Murray and he is hedging his bets - atleast I hope that is the case.

If he knew he had Brown or Murray, I just don't see him offering Kirk.

Our defense will be very good next year, just wonder if we will be able to score. Brown or Murray would go a long way offensively for us.

I like that comparison a thousand times more than the Liggins one. I remember watching DA at Doss and he and Charles play very similarly, with Derek being a bit more along at this stage, but still very, very close. I often compare Charles to Evan Turner at this stage in his career. Both from Chicago, both lean athletes who slash and can take their guys off the dribble and finish at the rim. Both guys even shoot the same in my opinion. The only difference I think is that Charles doesn't quite have the motor that Turner has, but every other comparison of their games at this stage in their careers is identical in my opinion.

I'm one that really likes what we have, think most are completely overreacting to the recruiting misses, thinks that next year will be a very mediocre season in college hoops so you don't need an all time great team to very very successful, etc. etc.

Having said all that, yes, if Skal isn't eligible it changes the entire picture....

I keep hearing conflicting reports on Skal.

On the one hand I hear that the kid has always made good grades at a school with a strong academic reputation and there should be no issues, and then I keep hearing that he may not eligible

I'm not sure why there are two stories floating around.

He does make good grades and has a strong academic reputation at a school with a strong academic reputation. People think it's a possibility (that's the keyword), that Skal doesn't play because his legal guarding apparently asked how he could make a profit off of Skal.
Things to note: It was reported that Skal may never play a single game due to his guarding trying to profit off of Skal, immediately after Skal committed to UK, despite being labelled as a Memphis lean. I think the writer who wrote the story was none other than Yahoo's Pat Forde, douche extraordinaire.
Skal was ineligible to play high school ball because of transfer rules in Tennessee, not grades, not anything he did, nothing like that, so his guardian started an AAU team. If money was made, it would be through the funding of that AAU team, and have no effect on Skal's eligibility. If Hamilton (his guardian) did anything dirty to profit off of Skal, and Skal was not aware of it, Skal will still be eligible (See Cam Newton).
This isn't the first time that these stupid rumors and reports came about. See every single phenom to come to Kentucky. Davis, Wall, and hell, even Bledsoe. I wouldn't read much into it, it's all very run of the mill.

There is academic eligibility, and amateur eligibility.

Most people are concerned about the 2nd because of stories saying Skal's guardian is shady and was looking for handouts. Keep in mind these stories surfaced in Memphis and only after Skal had committed to UK.
