Espn ranks Lonzo Ball ahead of Carmello

ESPN and "rank". 2 terms well suited for each other. Save that one. We'll dine on that for a long time. That would make D'Aaron Fox better than Magic.

Some of you might want to dispense with the narrative that Lonzo is going to suck. He's going to be an excellent NBA point guard.
On the offensive end. He will be owned on a regular basis playing "defense". He simply isn't athletic enough.

This isn't really surprising. Lonzo is a huge talent. Not sure why so many UK fans have such a difficult time giving anyone from anywhere else any credit.

The kid is a baller, and it's ok to admit.

Carmelo is old and doesn't give two shits about anything anymore except his paycheck. He's never been big on defense anyway.

I'd take Ball over him right now.

I think it's dumb. Ball will probably make a good to great NBA player. But are we supposed to believe Ball is better than Carmelo right now when he's never played an NBA game? Can the dude have a rookie season first? Quite stupid.

Is it not a projection of how they'll do this year?

I agree Melo is way underrated on this list. I think Lonzo will be a top 50 player this year, you can't leave him off of a list because he hasn't had a chance to play yet, if you think he's going to be a top 50 player. Plenty of rookies have been top 50 players.

Yeah, but they didn't draft him to play defense. They also signed KCP to play lockdown perimeter D, and Ingram has defensive skill at the wing.

Ball is intuitive and opportunistic on D, but pretty bad one on one. Luckily that shouldn't matter much with the guys playing beside him.

He does still have to guard an NBA pg though, right?

Not really. You can't stop those guys anyway with today's rules.

He will play as part of a defensive scheme that I doubt puts him on an island against the Curry's and Lillard's very often.

I'm sure this year will be ugly. But I'd bet he's eventually among the league leaders in steals.

I agree with the guy who said both are over-rated. I have never personally been a fan of C. Anthony - just something a bit selfish and lazy about him. He has matured over the years - but because he only wanted to work for his offensive stats - his personal legacy will fall short - and his teams have always fallen short.

BUT.... to rank a player who have never played an NBA game in the regular season... what a joke/hype. Lonzo will have his moments I'm sure - he has vision and creativity - those are his best assets... but he has a broken/inconsistent shot, no defense and an attention whore family upbringing that WILL impact him. Who knows if he pans out or not as a good/great NBA player - but I'd say the odds are 50/50 at best with all he's supposed to live up to vs what he actually has to work with and those who want to prove the hype wrong.

I thought it was funny that they dropped Booker 14 spots from last year because of his defense but have Lonzo right below him. Have they watched him play defense? I am not sure he could guard one of our walkons. He is a terrible defensive player.

Everyone who can sniff the NBA is a baller. Lonzo Ball included, but he has severe deficiencies in his game that will be exposed on the NBA level. His lateral quickness will be an issue on defense and offense. He already has an awkward shot and defenders will be able to crowd him since he can't beat his man off the bounce and affect passing lanes.
Ball is a one way player and has a father who has put a huge target on him. Every other NBA guy will be out to prove he isn't what Lavar and ESPN has made him out to be.
I'm not defending Lonzo Ball, just saying Carmelo is a team killer.

Mello cares about one thing and that's $$$. I rank every player in the NBA ahead of him. If you don't have a motivation to win why would I want you on my team?

Ball better fix that broken shot or he is going to become one dimensional like Rondo. There is no way he is going to be able to shoot from his hip and get those shots off against guys in the NBA.

You're quite well versed when it comes to the nba lol, that's much is for sure!

Lmao :joy: "I defend Nazis" wtf does that even mean? You sound ridiculous man.

Thanks for the chuckle . I always wondered why nobody on this board takes you seriously (like nobody...) Now I know why .

You still seem upset that you were 100% wrong about the Lakers/ 2 max players discussion. Not a big deal buddy.

That being said, I do enjoy your contributions to the board. Let's not hijack the thread with silly political accusations. You need stick to discussion at hand ok? Sound good bud? Good :)
The Lakers still don't have the cap space to sign 2 max guys. This is an objective fact and I was 100% right no matter how many Bleacher Report articles you cite.

They *will* have (make room) the cap space though. It's a Fact. Point blank period .
Myself and many others proved you wrong bud. Several times in fact. Again, it's NOT a big deal. It's ok to be wrong. Everyone's wrong sometimes (some more than others obviously) back pedaling and deflecting just looks desperate. I don't think less of you or anything. Honestly I don't.

Anyways , carry on. Let's stick to the discussion at hand. Hope you're doing well! :)

I shouldn't have to explain this to you but if they have to make space under the cap to sign 2 max guys, that means that they don't currently have the space to sign 2 max guys like I said. Until they make the moves to get enough cap space, they in fact do not have enough cap space.

How is you speculating on what they will do in the future a fact? Do you even know what a fact is? Maybe they will move the worst contract in the NBA and not get any salary back, but claiming that as a fact is moronic.
