ESPN predicts UK to the Birmingham Bowl....

What the hell is the Birmingham Bowl? If we finish 7-5 or better, you can bet serious money we won't be in a chump bowl. Our fans travel too well. MONEY

The B'ham Bowl is the former Compass Bowl, which we played Pitt in in 2011. I agree we would be in a more prestigious bowl than that possibly the Gator or Belk Bowl.

We went 7-5 under Brooks and went to the Music City Bowl three times......went to the Liberty Bowl when we went 6-6. Those are likely the bowls we'd be looking at. In fact, no team has been to the Music City Bowl more times than us.

On the one hand, just getting to a bowl game after 5 years wandering in the CFB post-season desert would be nice. OTOH, I agree, let's set our sights a little higher!!

So far we look like a bowl team. Need to beat Florida and a few more to move up, I think it could happen.

But nothing is locked up yet.

I hope we go to any bowl but that one. We made that trip 5 years ago and it was awful. The stadium was a hellhole and in a terrible part of town. Glad we had a rental car because locals were telling us to be sure and park in a highly visible place or our car would probably get broken into. No concession stands. I have been to every bowl game since the Marty Moore incident and most of the away stadiums and nothing comes close to Legion Field.

I have to admit I would take anything...

I have never been to a bowl game. Even in all my childhood in a die hard season-ticket holding Penn State family. I'll never forget the day my dad came home like 3 days before the Rose Bowl after the undefeated 1994 season and announced that he had tickets lined up, we just needed to get in the car and start driving immediately....and my mom put her foot down and would not let us go. I love mom, but man that still brings bitter bile to my throat.

We have a very legit chance at starting 4-0. If we do that, I would project the Outback at the very least. Got to tcb and it will decide itself.

Our fans travel very well, but a lot of SEC schools travel well at bowl season. History shows an SEC team usually needs 9 wins to break into the Capitol One Bowl or Citrus Bowl. Gator Bowl often gets an 8 win team. The Gator will take 1 of the Florida schools with 7 wins, but probably wouldn't take us with 7. None of these are hard and fast. There are exceptions, but no bowl is likely to make that kind of exception for us until we establish ourselves as a top tier SEC football program. Which is coming.

If we beat UF and Mizzo then a 5-0 start would mean 7 definite wins with UL, Miss State and UT in my opinion as toss ups. Not saying we WILL start 5-0, but IF....then we are looking at a possible 8-9 win season. Not too shabby with the young guns we have and only in year three. How crazy would it be for Stoops to pull off a 9-3 season this year and a 2nd place East finish? Could he get SEC COY with that or would it go to the top heavy West champ?

Agreed Phantom Legion field had panhandlers in their gravel parking lot hustling people. It is a nightmare location for a bowl game. I would be afraid to go out in the city after the game if we won

Haha. I would have at that moment.

My wife is on notice...even if we end up in the Mars Bowl we are going. We will pay whatever NASA or SpaceX are asking to get there.

As a Samford Grad I'd LOOOOOOOOOVE going back to B'ham or a lond weekend in Nashville with the short drive sounds good .

Lets pump the brakes on New Years Day bowls. We beat a very down SC
Team.
I am Not at all sure about this. Defensively they were fast and stout. We hit them in the mouth the first half and had them reeling. 85,000 Red and Black clad SC fans were dying to beat us senseless. I don't think that they are good either, But to go down there, in that environment and to pull out an ugly win is just phenomenal... Not many teams will roll down there and give away the first touchdown to them, then roar back adn score 24 straight on them.

Second half was of concern, but looks again like a watered down playbook.

I think that we maul Florida....

Our fans do travel well. Unfortunately for us, we compete with every other bowl-eligible SEC team for the conference "tie-in's" and with the exception of Vandy, all SEC fans travel well. We will need 8 wins to break out of the Music City, Birmingham, Liberty Bowl rotation IMO.

They just posted SC's schedule on Finebaum's show. I agree with Paul and the guy from the Big Lead he had on...looking like a 5 win team. Of course schedules are not won/loss on paper

I'd take the Music City if possible in that group. Payout is much higher and almost a home game.

I wouldn't mind the Music City for a 5th time. It is close and Nashville is a blast. However, I am sailing out of Miami on Jan 3rd and wouldn't mind arriving in Florida a few days early. [cheers]

You pump your brakes...... You don't have to be driving... You have to know where you're going in order to get there.... You pump your brakes and you're standing still.....

Why don't we get 6 wins and then complain about bowl predictions. I've been to every bowl game since the Hall of Fame Bowl and have enjoyed everyone, shitty bowl or not. I'm not convinced we are New Years Day Bowl ready, but hell, I've been wrong before. When we went to the Outback Bowl, we were winning 14-3 early if I remember correct, but there was no doubt that Penn State was the better team. Their tackles were harder and their guys were faster. Ended up losing by 10 or 12. Had a great time, but we were outmatched. We had lineman hurt, etc. I'd would rather go to a bowl we can win and continue the momentum.

I agree that I would rather go to a bowl that we have a good shot at a win. I do think, however, that we would have probably won the Outback had James Whalen not gotten hurt.
