Interesting thing about 70s Elvis: in December 1976, 8 months before he died, he weighed 172 pounds (annual physical records, made public - everything about the man has been made public by now). 8 months later, he dies at 255. So "fat Elvis" existed only for a few months, and it was only in his last tour, which started in March I think, that people knew he was fat. But the mere sight made such an impression that it's lived on in infamy - now the whole world thinks of Fat Elvis.Originally posted by ZZBlueComet:
I didn't care for the 70's, fat, caped, Elvis - but the Elvis from 1955-1960 was ballz-on awesome!

I'll even go from the fifties to about 1965. After that......Originally posted by ZZBlueComet:

I have an alternative take on these observations, that is rooted in the fact that from 1974 (after the Aloha from Hawaii special) Elvis was under pressure from his handlers to get off the drugs i.e. prescription diet pillsOriginally posted by Mojocat:

Rick.....errrr....Elvis, is a great guy. Sets up a liquor bar at our football tailgates occasionally. Has quite the spread too. He used to hang at the games with old "Hoops Head Russ", the guy that wore the cut out basketball on his head. Haven't seen Russ in a few years. He had one helluva sweet UK tricked out customized pickup truck.Originally posted by wildcatdonf:
From Nashville. Liquor salesman. Great guy. Big Wildcat fan. Had a cocktail with him one time.
Yes he was and Elvis had something few entertainers have today. He could actually sing and carry a tune. He started in the 50's when technology was still primitive. A needle over a piece of vinyl made the sound. Listen to his early recordings and the depth and quality of his voice. Few have ever mastered what he could do. Frank Sinatra was so jealous of Elvis' voice he went into hissy fits.Originally posted by katwest:
None of us are the men we were 20 years ago, he was still the king and one cool dude up until the end!
