LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The NCAA’s sole leader in pitching victories, Kentucky senior right-handed starting pitcher Dustin Beggs has been named a midseason first-team All-America by Perfect Game, it was announced on Thursday.

A native of Roswell, Ga., Beggs leads the nation with a 7-0 record, the only pitching in Kentucky history to win his first seven starts to a season. A 6-foot-2, 200-pounder, Beggs sports a 2.74 ERA in 49.1 innings, allowing 35 hits and seven walks, striking out 43 and allowing opponents to a hit for a .197 average.

In his two-year career, Beggs has a 14-4 record and a 3.34 ERA in 21 starts, fanning 118 and walking only 27 in 143 innings. In his career, Beggs ranks eighth in UK history and third in win-loss percentage (.778). Beggs has worked 11 quality starts in his career, with UK winning 15 of his 21 starts behind him. A 19th round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft and a 32nd round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, Beggs earned Most Outstanding Pitcher honors in the 2016 Tony Gwynn Classic after eight shutout, two-hit innings at San Diego State.

Kentucky (20-8, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) will return to action on Friday, welcoming Alabama for a three-game series, starting at 6:30 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Beggs is excellent. He was actually really fun to watch this past weekend. First off, he pitched outstanding, and then on Sunday he was pretty goofy around the dugout. Has some pretty funny rituals. Another funny one was Strecker, who loudly says, "Finish him!" like the old video game anytime a pitcher gets to 0-2 on a hitter.
