Dumb Question..Long Snapper?

Seeing UK has a commitment from a Long Snapper was wondering does a Long Snapper snap to both punts and EP and FG? I assume they do.

I think most handle both but there are some teams that specialize. In the NFL there's - at most - only one per team because of roster size limits. It doesn't get talked about a lot, but if you can be a good long-snapper you can have a really good career in the NFL. It doesn't pay a lot by NFL standards but if you can do it, and do it well, you have great job security.

Most do, but this year, UK moved to one for punts and a different one for FG and EP. I think that was to try and have them focus on one distance both struggled trying to do both.

LS has evolved into a specialty role nowadays. In the NFL it's not unusual for a LS to be a banker, teacher, insurance agent by day and LS by night. In the old NFL days LSs were position players...Bill Curry was a C but was also a LS as was guys like Chuck Bednarik and Tommy Nobis, both LBs. Much more value placed on it now.

I think all our LS on campus are upper-class men.

Long Snapper is a million dollar a year position in the NFL.

Long snapper is something that most can not do. Years ago it was someone who had long legs and usually play LB on defense or TE. I have a nephew that played at a 6A school in Kentucky that never had one missed long snap his senior year. Of course they had several kids to pick from on a team from 100+ kids. There were probably 10 kids that could do it.

So UK has 85 scholarships and what, 20 walk-ons'.....I would say none of the 85 scholarship players were a long snapper in HS. So what UK needs to do is entice long snappers to walk-on. Now, the first year might me be OK, but to walk-on for 4 years and not getting a scholarship and no one ever knowing your name, that's a tough deal.
