Duke is now the overall #1 Seed "ACC"ording to Espn........

They could be seeded 4th or 5th and still have the easiest road to the Final Four. That is just the way it is. They will be seeded close to home and the other teams in their bracket will not match up well with them. This has been the pattern for over 20 years. It is not going to change this year

At this point K hoping to have enough players to suit up going forward. No word on Matt Jones but he was putting no weight on that foot leaving the stadium.

How the heck did K get such a thin bench? He was only playing 6 players before Jones got hurt. He has a gaggle of water boys over there....

Major league baseball is very lucky K chose a career in basketball.
If he were managing an MLB franchise he would be the master at the ole bases empty grand slam.

I think ESPN Radio just talked about them being a #1 seed.. Kind of missed it, but the other guy laughed it off. Might have said #1 overall, but can't be sure.

Talking about them being the best team in college right now.

Duke has grown a ton, and is as tough as any other team in the nation.

Anyone who has Duke as the #1 overall team in the country is a moron. Beating UNC on fumes is a great emotional win, but with another ten or twelve games to go... well, a team of five serious players just cannot do it. People, including the media, get too caught up in the moment, and don't look at the big picture.

Eh, yeah, it is definitely strange.

First, three guys who were generally expected to be here, aren't. (Jones and Winslow and Rasheed S.)

Semi O transferred out. So did Mike G. from Syracuse.

Sean Obi just never really seemed to pan out. I mean, he was a two star recruit, but still... you'd hope for a few minutes. Vrank is a three star and a bit of a project.

Then, with Jefferson and Jones being hurt... ugh. Counting all of the above, that's three guards, three SF types, and two bigs who were likely expected to be here when we were recruiting, but aren't.

Ojeleye transferring out didn't help. The transfer in (Obi) is just not very good for this level. I knew there was something to that when I heard absolutely no buzz during the off-season about him. Think about K's past transfers: Dahntay Jones, Roshown Mcleod, Rodney Hood, Seth Curry. There was buzz around all those guys and then we found out why, they could ball. Obi is a total stiff. Then you had the injury to Amile Jefferson and now Jones. If nobody was hurt, it would be a decent rotation with 7.5 guys. (I'm giving Jeter a half a point as he is just not there yet but I think in time he'll be pretty good)

So really a combo of transfers/injuries and some misjudgment on a couple people. (Obi, Vrankovic)

I swear, this was some backdoor deal between ol' friends K and Roy to get Duke into the tournament with a better seed. That's the only plausible scenario of what transpired last night.

Seriously though.. what in the hell?

Nice analysis. I could see how that could lead them to where they are now. A mediocre team that will get a good seed and bow out early when someone cuts their legs out by foul trouble or fast paste play.....

They lost Matt Jones to a bad ankle sprain. They will flame out eventually. Duke is a NON-FACTOR this year. Point guard is weak as hell for them.

Hard to replace 4 starters and then deal with losing a starter to injury.

You make it sound like none of their original starting 5 is available. Ingram, Plumlee, Allen, Jones, and Jefferson were starting most of the season until Jefferson got injured. Jones got hurt last night. That leaves 3 "starters"

I meant from last season. They lost 4 starters from last year and then lost Jefferson this year (and now Jones). That's how you end up with no depth.

After watching last night eight times out of ten all Grayson Allen has to do is tell the referees hey I am getting ready to drive to the basket. I am going to throw my head back a few times , flail my legs and arms , so please get ready to call a foul, oh and please ignore the walk that happens on the way to the basket , thanks

Signed
Grayson Allen

i honestly dont think ive ever disliked a player as much as Allen. he is the worst
I got one for you.
Joakim Noah.
Most hated player in my mind. Allen isn't in our face enough for me to hate him. I honestly don't see a reason to hate him but Joakim Noah….

A horrible missed traveling call and a timeout are the difference in Duke being a top team and missing the tournament. Could, and arguably should, be at 8 losses right now, needing to practically win out to make the tournament.

A win is a win.. but not worried about them at all. Still think they get bounced early. Sub-100 ranked defense doesn't bode well, and if Jones misses time, they really won't be able to D up other teams.

I think weak as hell is a bit strong. Thornton has improved. He's not scoring a lot but that kid has played 73 minutes the past two games against top 10 teams, and has zero turnovers. And he has been very good defensively. He has been steady out there for them recently.

Link, or it's just more paranoid delusional stupidity.

Way to make crap up.

They didn't say that

Bracketology has them as a 4 seed...

Yup. That profile (D on KenPom is at 97 right now) does not fare well in the tournament. But it's a weak year overall, so WTF knows?

For me when Noah was at Florida and kicking our butt i disliked our teams and coaches for stinking so bad, i didnt really hate florida, i know im in the minority there. i also respected noah as being a good player, allen is the floppiest, whineiest, call getting guy ive seen in a while. not to mention he is tied with ted cruz(his father) and martin shkreli for the most punchable face in the world
