Dores at Cats (Rubber)

Logue gives up a home run and back to back hits and the Cats pull him to go to Harney. Why didn't Harney go to begin with!?

Another complaint... Headrick saying Logue hasn't been the same since the Indiana game. No offense to Logue, but that was his 4th start. The other 3 were to Western Kentucky, Bellarmine, and Murray State. Since, he's faced Indiana, EKU, Morehead, Louisville, and TAMU. Big difference in competition might explain why he's struggled some.

Another single scores 1 for Vandy. Harney gave up a walk. Bases loaded. UK mad at the strike zone. Really boiling up on the anger, with even Harney expressing it

Error on Ritter... or should be. They call it a hit. It's a soft liner he tried to double up on and instead missed it entirely.

3-0 Dores. No outs

Cats get out of the first only giving up 3 runs. Could have been way worse.

Well that was embarrassing. Rubalcaba thinks it is a pitch out. Harney throws a strike and it gets past Rubalcaba to the backstop to give Vandy second.

Mingione mad at god knows what. Umpire not happy with him.

Double play ends the inning but Vandy added a run. 4-0 going to bottom 2

McCarthy grounds into double play and he's hurt as he grabs his hamstring after he hits the bag.

Vandy scores again in the 4th to make it 5-0. Felker now in center, I believe.

This is not a strong hitting Vandy team. They certainly have a few nice hitters but nothing like what they've had in the past. Opposing pitchers have to pitch ahead of them and not walk people.

Plastiak just robbed of another one. I’m here can someone tell me why they reviewed ?

Hahahaha so Plastiak blasted one and Bradfield jumped at the wall and brought it back. Amazing play. The call from Headrick was outstanding with him being extremely excited about such a great play.

I'm also listening to Gabriel... his response was, "what a catch." Didn't change tone at all from the moment it left the bat to the catch.

So bad.

Our defense is bad. Felker actually in left. I cant tell who is in center and right. Don't know if it's Fogel and Jump or what. But Felker lets one drop in front of him that probably should have been caught if he actually takes an line to the ball rather than just playing to his left.

Then Plastiak drops a foul ball.

Anu makes an appearance and lines out to short.

Ritter with a liner to left that scores Felker, who had reached on a double. 5-2.

UK caught a hell of break there as the ball went off the bullpen gate and ricocheted over the head of the left fielder to easily give Ritter 2nd. May have had 2nd anyway, but that bounce almost gave him 3rd as well.

That game was not as close as 5-3. Got outhit by a whole lot. Vandy just didn't string them together after the first or second inning. Credit to our pitching staff for making the pitches they needed to get out of tough spots.

Live RPI currently has UK at 77.

As it stands right now UK, South Carolina and Ole Miss are tied for 13th in the league.

Haven't played USC yet, but Ole Miss holds the tie breaker over us. The scary part is that it feels like 3 losses are looming against Tennessee and USC, Missouri, and Ole Miss have already been taken down by the Vols. So, the most likely team to sweep them already has. Ole Miss has to play Missouri and UK has to play USC. So, that may separate us all. Still, flirting with the possibility of finishing last or 13th is not ideal and if we do so we don't get to even try in the league tournament.

So. I’m curious about something. Seth Logue started. Faced 3 hitters and got zero outs. In comes Harney and throws a decent game. But the result is still the same.

If you as a coach knows that Logue is struggling and you as a team need wins, why do you think to start him in a game that you desperately have to have? Rebuild his confidence in the midweek games then see what happens on the weekend with relief appearances. This was not a game that you do this too. Vandy knew how important it was and they just came out with way more energy to start. Thoughts?

I think they know that Harney is similar to a Guilfoil and that you'd probably like to use him to shut down an opponent when you have a lead. Then maybe you keep that lead and win. So I think they were possibly hoping that we'd have a chance to use him earlier. Say in game 1 of the series. Obviously, that one was never close, so we didn't need or use him. Game 2 we used Guilfoil. At that point... I don't know why we didn't change the plan to start Harney. Then let Logue or a number of others come out of the pen. Still, it makes sense that they wouldn't fully plan to start him if they could use him to get a win before Sunday.

I just think at this point, UK needed that game. And I think you have to go with the one who gives you the best shot at a win outta the gate. You spot Vandy 3 and have to play from behind all game after that. I see your point and it makes sense. I feel this was just another blunder in a long list for this staff.

On a related note, did I miss something. What happened to Bosma?

I agree. Once you don't use Harney on either day 1 or 2 you then have to use him day 3. Realistically, once you don't use him game 1 you plan to use him game 3 unless it's an emergency in game 2. Because Guilfoil at this point is option 1 out of the bullpen.

That's the only line of thinking I have on why he didn't start Saturday (or Sunday) to begin with. But the staff managing our pitchers has been weird. It seemed to start the year that Cotto was locked into Saturday and Bosma and Lee were neck and neck for Sunday. Yet, Lee wasn't option 1 for starting when Cotto struggled. Williams was, but he wasn't much of a contender to start until he did well. So it's just all been kind of a weird mix.

Ming deciding to start Logue essentially lost us the series. Harney was excellent. Damn shame to lose this game.

TBH, I'm not sure why this wasn't an automatic decision the moment we went to game 3. Harney started a year ago and was solid. I get that we're desperate for wins so you want to use him in relief if you are winning game 1 or 2 and have to use him. But we didn't, so at that point he should he an auto start. No clue why they decided against that. Would be a good question for the staff if I cared enough to listen to Mingione and his crappy rhetoric.

I was at the game today. Best crowd of the season and again, Ming takes the air out of the crowd by starting Logue. Just terrible.

The ump sucked Vandy is incredibly lucky (still don't know how PLastiak ball didn't leave the yard), but it's the first inning starting Logue that doomed us.

Done with Ming after this weekend.

The only suspense left in the season is whether Mingione is coaching UK next year.
