Let me preface this stating I am NOT a basketball guru. I love the game but do not know the game like many on this site do, I just sit back and enjoy it.

The above stated; Does Cal use a four-guard line-up? If so does he use it significantly?

To me it seems UK has the players to do that in "spurts". It should surely quell any scoring droughts...

It may also cause confusion for the other team.

(If this has been posted lately and discussed I missed it.) Thanks

Wall to Boogie answered in another thread but I thought with the players we have and could throw out all at once UK might do that a time or two during the games. I know we have some serious bigs too but that was my thoughts....

We won't start a 4-Guard lineup, but you may see it in spots if bigs get in foul trouble, and we have to put a kid like Mulder in with Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray. But no, we aren't gonna run 4 Guards a lot it just makes no sense from a defensive stand point. 3-Guard lineup? Yeah, I could see a good serving of that because Briscoe, Murray, and Ulis aren't coming off the bench.

It's possible I suppose. But Poythress and Lee are too good to be both sitting on the bench for long periods of time unless in foul trouble.

I think it may happen at times. Ulis Briscoe Murray and Matthews with one of our frontcourt players would be a possibility.

It may happen on occasion, but not regularly. Will depend on the matchups and how well individual Cats are playing. In a 40 game season (1600 minutes), I would expect to see 4 guards a maximum of 100 minutes.

There will absolutely be games where at least 2 of the bigs pick up 2 quick fouls apiece.

In my opinion, how often we go with a 4 guard set in those situations will depend on how much Cal trusts Willis.

I think he would rather stick a 6'9" guy out there than a big guard, but if Cal views Willis as a liability then 4 guards at times it will be.

Pretty much this. 4-guard lineups will be situational, done out of necessity, not as a part of the game plan.

Cal is a master of being "ahead of the curve" introducing new "tweaks" to this game we love...I think his next "tweak" will be to petition the NCAA to allow 6 players on the floor at once (just so the ten million arm-chair coaches in the BBN can ALL be made happy.)

He could but maybe at the end of game for FT shooting

I could see us using it on occasion this season, but not very often. Mainly when there is foul trouble. Maybe at the end of games, when we are trying to hold a lead and going to the line.

I don't think we will see a 4-guard starting lineup, though. We would have to have some injury issues to two of our bigs for that to happen. Cal will start two of Poy, Lee, and Skal, so as long as two of them are able to play, Cal will start two bigs.

Doubt it. Matthews would need to show he has great strength to hold his own on the glass/in the post on D for it to be considered. Mulder just doest have the frame or measurables.

Winslow thrived at Duke at PF because of his elite strength, instincts and athleticism. His uptick in shooting was a plus.

If it comes to that point, where Poy and Lee are in foul trouble or an injury occurs, i'd slot Willis in. I feel Derek has the potential to make for a killer stretch-4 on offense.

Matthews needs to add some muscle to be effective at the 4. He's 190 lbs. while Winslow was 225.

Most people don't think about how much strength matters and get fixated on height.
