Does a Humphries departure mean a Bamba commitment?

Not that he would have played in front of Bamba but another spot just opened up.

Yes, Bamba was scared of Humphries taking his minutes. But seriously, I don't think it means anything. We already have a spot for Bamba if he wants to commit.

I think everyone's looking at it from the wrong angle.

Bamba sure as heck wouldn't have been scared off by Humphries, but the coaches may have told Hump or hinted to him that we'd be getting Bamba.

Hump then realized he wouldn't play in front of him, so decided to bolt.

It's possible that there is a connection. Not likely, but possible.

Was going to say this.

I think Cal met with Humphries (as we know) told him where he stood, that we were still heavily in for Bamba, that SKJ would be competing for minutes as well, and that we were bringing in Richards already, and knew that if he didn't play this year on a team with one big man, that he sure wouldn't play next year and made the right choice for himself.

Humphries never got a chance and probably never was gonna get a chance playing big minutes at UK.
Truth.

I remember when people said that about Josh Harrelson.

Same body type, same type of game, and Humprhies is better now than Harrelson was coming in as a junior. Humphries could have been great his senior year. But unlike Josh Harrelson, he was scared of the competition, and that's why he'll never be better than Josh, even though he has the potential to be.

And if Kanter is eligible, Harrellson never plays. So if Humphries is supposed to hang around and hope that Richard and Bamba and Bagley and whoever else happens to not qualify, he can. But as it stands, last year was his shot to play. We needed him, and he wasn't good enough to keep the minutes yet.

No slight on him. Great kid. Could have developed into a very good player. Probably still will at the pro level. But he wasn't going to see the court here.

or his coach was up-front with him about where he stood in the pecking order

I love house of cards!

Cal was up front with Josh too. He is with all his players. That's why most of the BCG left overs transferred out. But not Josh. Josh told Cal he was going to stay, work, and get better. And that's exactly what he did.

The article is old, but there was one where Cal told Josh he should consider a transfer, but he obviously declined.

he should be...humphires was the best rebounder on the team and in the cal era.

That's a very fair point about Josh with Kanter. But the point remains that Cal told Josh he should transfer out when he first took over (there was an article about it, plus he told most of the BCG leftovers the same thing which is why they did leave) but Josh said he was going to stay and work. And he did just that.

With the uncertainty of recruiting and injuries we'll just have to wait and see if he would've had an opportunity. Hell if Lee doesn't transfer he probably gets a larger role due to Skal's let down of performance.

Why would this not be also true of Richards. Richards will play in front of Hump as well.

I think that is the true reason.

he had every chance. but just wasnt good enough. its not about playing through mistakes. humphries couldnt even stay on the court. why is it so many people just over look the fact that as soon as he got on the court he would pick up 2 or 3 fouls in the span of just a handful of minutes.

there is no "playing through mistakes" when its like that. you just cant play is all. humphries was the go to big man off the bench this year...kid did nothing with it. cant play.

Who the hell knows. I hate it when these kids drag things out. If he knows where he want to go, then make the announcement. Ugh.

Nothing to worry about, Remember, Duke tried to screw us last year by having Marques Bolden drag it out. So we are returning the favor to remind them who the top dog recruiter is. Bamba is a cat guys, and he is a power forward not a center
