Do you think Corso will be back?

Will never understand guys like this. It was like Paterno, wtf is wrong with these guys. And what’s wrong with their families for not getting tough on their narcissism. And to me what’s what it is.

84 year olds should be at home with this grandchildren and if they still want to be active in work, set up a charity or something. To keep on in their careers that are extremely time consuming at these ages is insane. Especially if you’ve got the money to do whatever you want.

Retire, enjoy your family, and stop caring only about yourself.

Said the same thing about Uncle Joe.

On Corso, espn should have let him go years ago. This decline isn't new to this season.

Without knowing what's going on in his head, I'm hesitant to criticize him. He genuinely might not even realize how bad it looks. To me, it's more about ESPN and his family enabling it when it's gotten to such a level. A non-sports version of this was how Dick Clark kept doing New Year's Eve at least 10 years past quitting time.

For sure it’s not always narcissism, sometimes they’re too old to know what’s going on. But many times I do believe it’s narcissism. Like with Paterno, there’s no doubt in my mind he was a narcissist. Think of the travel, time with players and coaches, time away from his family he’ll never get back. He definitely cared more about himself than who he was supposed to care about.

Nothing good comes from extremely elderly people working stressful jobs that even 30 year olds have a tough time operating. And yes the families that allow it are really head scratching. But I think more times than not the answer there is money.

The problem with not knowing when to quit is you’re setting yourself up not to be remembered for who you were, but instead for the version of yourself at that age. My grandfather always told me that, then proceeded to quit working when he died at 90. And his daughters allowed it because he made a lot of money. I’ve got experience here.

With that I’m sure there’s some 80 year olds here who want to kick my ass.

I don't think he will be back. I didn't think he should be back about 5 years ago.

There was a thread on here several years ago with people lining up to defend Corso the mascot and him still being on the air at whatever age he was then.

I agree money is the main motivator, which is sad as you can't take it with you and his family is no doubt set up well for a generation or 2. I doubt he makes big time sportscaster money but probably made it good in the 90s and 2000s for sure.

He’s always been a cartoon character to me . Never pay attention to him and honestly didn’t notice he was gone until I saw this thread.

I know Bobby Bowden didn't want to retire because of a fear of death. His two biggest idols were his father and Bear Bryant. His father died less than a year after retiring and the Bear died one month after retiring from Alabama. Bowden worried he'd suffer a similar fate. FSU fired him in 2009 and he lived until 2021.

That's understandable I suppose. We all got that one way ticket and some do see retirement as just laying around and waiting until the clock runs out. It's important to have hobbies and passions and do things when one retires to avoid that complacency.

My dad passed away this year. He was 89. I had to put an ultimatum that if he didn’t quit working, I was going to sell out my part of our business and quit myself. I told him that several years ago because he was becoming a danger to himself and others also. He did quit, but never forgave me. He would sit in our shop and and watch me work all day while constantly saying I wish I could help you. Sad. I’m retiring after this year someway. Not putting my family through that.

I respect my elders and don’t want to judge anyone. In this case Mr Corso should without question retire and spend what little time he has left with family. 🍺

I fully respect my elders but it’s just something I’ve noticed in a few of them. I’m sorry I am but if your family isn’t worth living for but your job is, your priorities are highly suspect.

On the topic above, not only did bear die less than a month after he retired, but Paterno did as well (around 2 months I think) but they both died of lung cancer IIRC.

There’s an interview with Paterno talking about bear dying because He retired and he thought retiring killed him. Pretty freaky.

These people who fear death upon their retirement, are not completely off-base in their concerns; however, I think the issue is that they aren’t prepared to focus as intently on something in the next phase of their life as they were into their main career.

There is something about the human body that likes a certain type of stress and the related mental a focus. I don’t know what it is, but it seems I have seen a lot of rapid decline in people shortly after their retirements.

Of course, it isn’t that surprising when someone in his 60s gets sick. Nor, is it uncommon for someone to begin to feel badly, retire, then die.

Nonetheless, I plan to retire no later than the day I turn 62, and I intend to have a plan for what I will be stepping into next after I retire.

(Vote UKUGA 2040!)

J/k 😉

Just like Uncle Joe. People can bash orange man bad all they want an I'm all for it but as a moderate, one clearly has severe cognitive issues and the other is just a megalomaniac power hungry guy.
I consider myself an independent politically and I would take Trump 100 times out 100 over the senior citizen we have in office right now. It’s crazy that’s the person in charge of the United States

I looked at my 401k this morning and wonder how anyone that works for a living could like what we have. Oh wait it’s Covid or Russia or the Ukraine.

Even older people need to feel useful. Those that don’t feel needed, many times commit suicide.

He probably still loves it. He probably loves being around the other guys. He flies in on a Friday 13 days a year and flies out on a Saturday. I don’t feel like it’s a narcissist thing or a money thing and I don’t feel like anyone is pushing him out there…he probably just really enjoys it, and his role is so minor now.

Kudos for him having purpose in his late 80’s, living life after a stroke and having fun while doing it.

I like pat and how he’s a breath of fresh air on there but the dude is a little eccentric.

I agree he should move on. I have been retired for 15 years and I am as active as a person needs to be. I cut down two trees yesterday. Actually I pulled them down with my 4x4 pickup but still. Now I have to cut them up and haul them away.
I am not telling my age but I was born in 1943.

Hang it up Corso and behave yourself.

You old swamp rat lol. I’m 62, and trying to find a way to retire. I’m seeing a window, but it’s pretty fogged up. I’ll make it happen though. Golf courses are awaiting. As are the spring greens and fish. Loving life at the moment. My dad’s passing, sad as it was, inspired me. I’m going to live what I have left, to the fullest. God bless my dad’s generation.

He is under so many investigations, while Trump is clean! Didn't Joe make stupid suggestions like injecting bleach, nuking hurricanes, airports during revolutionary war. he has gone mad no doubt
