BYU actually over achieved this year..... being a mormon school they are playing on hard mode.. so Im still impressed by Pope. He's not ready for the UK job though.

Threads like this are so dumb. I'm not saying I want him, but just because he lost early this tourney doesn't mean we wouldn't want him. Look at Cal's recent record as evidence.
I’d take him over what Cal has become. But i’d take a half eaten tuna sandwich and a ball of pocket lint over Cal.

Yeah Pope can get the top talent at..........BYU. By your logic, he's a better coach than Pitino since Pitino missed the tournament with a better shool. Works for me since Pitino is a loser.
And Coach K lost to Lehigh, Izzo lost to Florida Gulf Coast, Self lost to Bucknell. Shit happens.
And OP isn't dumping on Pope. They're just pointing out that this board has a revolving door of flavors of the month replacements for Cal. Anytime someone wins a game they get added to the list of replacements that people are 100% sure will be better. It's laughable.

All kidding aside theirs a long list of Coaches who can actually Coach better then CAL. Unfortunately their are very few that can handle this job aside from Coaching.

I agree. This thread makes the OP look like an insecure little beta fan boy of Calipari.
The beta Cal boys are lining up to take shots at every possible candidate in this tournament that might be mentioned as a Cal replacement.
Of course, the ones they can't take shots at (like Hurley), they'll just simply say those guys "won't want to come to UK anyway."
The beta boys cover all their tracks. They put the coach ahead of the program every year.
I like Mark Pope. He's done a pretty good job at BYU, but I'm not sure he overachieved. While I understand it's not the easiest place to recruit, every coach before him, dating back to the mid 70's has had the same (or more) amount of success as Pope.
He has to do something in the post season at some point. His inability to win a game in the NCAA Tournament is a big detriment to his resume.
I also agree that it's a stupid thing to post about.
Whats laughable is that you said its not dunking on Pope and then you dunked on pope by thinking he'd do worse than 64% winning % these 4 years.

Nah, he wouldn't be a sure thing. There are zero coaches who would come here that would be a sure thing. Everyone would be a gamble. It's fine if you think it's time to move on, and I'm not attached to Cal staying myself, but to act like these fringe coaches are 100% sure to be an upgrade is foolish.
Remember last year when we lost to the Missouri coach? Rafters spent the next 3 days swooning over the new young and hungry coach. Did they even make the NIT this year?
