Do you believe

I love Pelphrey, of course - but if he does go any higher than mid-major, then it needs to be a basketball school.

He's a good coach, I think - but he doesn't have what it takes to fight the football powers, if you catch my meaning.

Just my opinion.

oh, you mean Pelphrey. hell no, that dudes B ball IQ was exposed years ago when I was yelling at him from my living room floor as a 10 year old to front christian laettner.

I'm with those thinking a mid major is about all he will get now if he gets another head coaching position. He may just be a career assistant now though, who knows.

and there is nothing wrong with that - he's a darn good one.

Wouldn't surprise me, if Billy D leaves, that John goes with him.

Yep. Some are meant to be captains, others LT's and Sergeants. Nothing at all wrong with that.

I do think John could probably have another mid-major HC job. Question is would he want it?

I think the question should be does he want to be a head coach again? He has a pretty cush job in Gainsville if you ask me and no pressure. Yes I know you make a whole lot more money as head coach, but Donavon will take care of John were ever he goes if he leaves Florida!

It appears he doesn't want one. He could end up being a John Robic type guy. Great assistant, but just doesn't quite have the head coach mentality. Nothing wrong with that at all.

He's a KY boy and I hope he does well. Nobody here knows the guy's bball IQ and I would guess it is better than any poster here.

That said, the biggest smh play in UK history is when JP backed so far away from Laettner...

Ha ha ha. Except mine. One unique feature of the UK basketball fan is that we're all pretty certain we can do a better job than anyone not named Calipari (and there have been moments I could have done better than CCal!).

His next job will be mid major, sure. But it's not unreasonable to think he could parlay that to a big six job again in a couple years. He's only forty six. His name got thrown around for the south Florida job. So it's not like he's got to go slumming at UNC Asheville. Takes over a decent place like UAB, gets them to a tournament or two, and next thing you know you're on the short list for a good job again.

The main reason John has not truly pursued other coaching openings since going back to UF is that his son is a major baseball prospect. The person that told me this did not clarify if the young man is MLB material or major college prospect. Anyway, he does not want to make change at this time.

Yes. Next year as UF's interim coach with the possibility of becoming permanent if he is able to make something of it.
