I mean here we've got this kid Balsa Koprivica, that says. That Rick Pitino has a good history with bigs. I can't help but ask. What's he seeing that I don't?
Examples
1. Terrance Jennings - A highly rated 4-star recruit that was a borderline 5-star recruit. After his time with Pitino, never played 1 second of NBA basketball.
2. Samardo Samuels - A consenus 5-star recruit, a McDonald's AA that some considered to be the #1 high school player in America. After his time with Pitino, played only 3 years in the NBA as an insignificant roll player.
3. David Padgett - A 5-star McDonald's AA. played 4 years at UL counting his redshirt year. After his time with Pitino, never played 1 second of NBA basketball.
4. Marvin Stone - A 5-star McDonald's AA. After his time with Pitino, never played 1 second of NBA basketball.

I would hope that someone would point this out to this kid be for he would make the mistake of signing with UL which would result in Pitino ruining yet another career

Lots of coaches focus on selling college success. "So and so was third team all conference, look how great a job I did in coaching him."

I'm sure he also mentions guys like Nazr and Magloire to show kids and parents how long he's been a great coach.

And then Dieng and Harrell are both rotation guys.

So when you're a soulless, morally bankrupt, self serving monster like Pitino, that's enough ammo to bend the truth in a favorable light. He's done more with less in that practice, that's for sure.

Don't forget Derrick Caracter, because everybody else has.[winking]

You're being very misleading here. Padgett first played at Kansas, where he had a disappointing Freshman year mostly riding the bench. He then transferred to UL, where he did much better as the starting center averaging double digits on some damn good UL teams. So he ain't the best guy to be using for this point, if anything Pitino's seen more as the guy who revived Padgett's career after his disappointing stint at Kansas.

And, although by no means am I inclined to defend Pitino, the truth is you could make a similar list of 4 or 5 star recruits who disappointed for any big time coach who's been around for awhile, including Cal--see Marcus Lee, Ryan Harrow, Dakari Johnson, Stacey Poole, Alex Poythress, Jon Hood, Eloy Vargas, Kyle Wiltjer (not counting his Gonzaga resurgence), James Young, etc. That is hardly a thing exclusive to Pitino.

Maybe he was referring to the game of life. Pitino builds character and provides other opportunities besides basketball. You have to be big if you know what I mean.

Define "disappointed" though. Because you listed a handful of pro players, a lottery pick, some guys who transferred in after disappointing elsewhere and a couple who transferred out for playing time.

I mean he can only really point to Dieng, Mathiang, and Harrell as bigs that did anything much at all in the NBA and the latter 2 are hanging on for dear life.

What "lottery pick" did I supposedly list?

And, fwiw, if playing in the pros disqualifies one from being a disappointment, then you might mention it to the OP, for he includes a guy for "playing only three years in the NBA", would that same criteria apply to a UK player?

Beyond that, I'm not getting into a quibbling pissing match over what constitutes a disappointment. I don't like being put in the position where I find myself sorta defending our rivals, but these threads always crack me up because people act like the same thing doesn't also happen here. Sorry, folks, but we've got our own considerable list of guys who failed to live up to the hype (and, btw, i could've done a plenty longer list), yet we only seem to notice the other guy's examples, never our own.

I meant James Young, who was drafted 17th, not 14th. My mistake.

I know what point you're trying to make, but you're reaching badly to make it.

To try and equate our guys to those who didn't meet expectations at other programs and just act like it's all the same everywhere takes a hammer to any kind of nuanced discussion.

It doesn't preclude you from being objective to say that our guys have achieved greater success at a greater rate, as a whole, than any other program over the same time period. It's fine to just let reality be reality. It isn't always bad fan behavior.

Plus, I would love to see that longer list you could name. Define what a disappointment is and then go right ahead. Because if it can include guys which were good as freshmen, went to the title game, and then went to the NBA where they remain, I'm sure that's going to be quite a list.

Most recruits are really clueless about what teams are really doing. Id wager they watch more NBA if any bball at all. I mean this Balsa dude is sitting down to watch UL play a game? NO effing way.

You put such beautiful words together. Well done.

There are only so many spots open on the big schools rosters. So, some big time recruits will have to go to second and third tiered schools, ie Little Brother, for PT.
