I think Levis actually threw the ball away twice (or more) including a pass I had never seen: he bounced a bullet directly at the feet of a defender who blocked the path to the receiver. Perfectly legal!

He also hit a back on a lateral pass a time or two . . . it gained little, but didn’t lose anything, either.

Little plays like these allowed the team who gave up the most sacks, to give up only two to the team that led the nation in sacks.

Why we had so many deep routes with the Olin was moronic on Scangerello
I had a thread last week saying Levis needed to hit the back laterally a time or two, needed to hit quicker slants and TE’s, and throw the ball away some, and I am not naive enough to think that post made a difference but all these things happened Saturday.

Hell, a vision-impaired grandmother sharing her tickets with her 8 year old granddaughter could have collectively made the same suggestions my post made.

This ain’t rocket science!

Maybe but those quick pops Kattus in three yard area was there a ton if you wanted complete percentage to go up
Have you considered Kattus’s dominant emergence in the second half of the season?

We play multiple TE’s, but he was seldom off the field.

I believe Levis also threw one or two balls away (sideline or long) to avoid sacks. And I find your theory very plausible that playing to prove NFL merit factored into Levis’s decision making. Couple that with significant, underappreciated injury, and Levis was a different QB this year than last. (I say none of this to absolve UK’s OL or Scang; I believe our struggles on offense had multiple causes.)

I was actually a rocket scientist (finding ways to shoot them down) and i agree it ain't rocket science.

What a cool freaking job! I wondered what you did when you said you were a Physicist the other day. Kudos for making it through all of those formulas. Two of the toughest classes I have had in my life, Physics I and II.

It was a fun job. Regan's defense initiative got the nickname "Star Wars", and a lot of the stuff we worked on was far out research. I worked on lasers, advanced sensors, and rocket counter measures.

Too cool.

The Chicoms have a non-nuclear missile widely deployed that they claim can take out a Carrier with “over-the-horizon” capabilities.

I’ve mentioned this to a few buds who served on Carriers the last 25 years, and they just say, “counter-measures,” and smile.

Thank you for your work, civilian or military (or both)!

Him making those solid basic decisions made a huge difference. He put us in so many negative situations it was really mind-blowing.

Starting the Georgia game, he finally started throwing the ball and giving his receivers a chance even when they weren't clearly open.

He told the cbs crew before Georgia he knew he played too conservative this year, including running the ball, and was going to loosen up the rest of the season. It made all the difference

I have a theory.

He wanted a higher completion percentage to show the NFL, and he got it.

But he paid with his body.

Imo it was the turnovers. Let's face it, he was definitely a turnover machine during his career. I think that's why he held the ball and waited to throw until receivers were open. Of course by then it was already too late.

It was both. Noticed that this post was misleading. I was never in the military. I worked as a civilian in the Department of Defense (Army) Department and after retirement, as a civilian contractor for the Department of Defense.

Which shows how little you know about this sort of thing. Modern NFL scouts look at all sorts of analytics, but completion percentage is not one of them.

It’s about damn time. At least 1/3 of his sacks these 2 years are on him from not recognizing pre snap defenses , not stepping up in the pocket, not hitting his check down receiver, or jut not throwing the ball away.

I noticed. Shame it had to be noticed.

Is it possible that the OC saw that UL blitzed A LOT and told Will to look for the quick passes. I thought we had some RPO looks more in this game. Like sometimes he put the ball in CRODS grasp for a long time before passing the ball.

It was great to see that the staff finally realized that thr middle of the field is not a no trespassing zone in football.!!

Yeah but I think the entire emphasis in the offensive room that week was on getting rid of the ball period. Plays were called to get the ball out of his hands and Will was concious of it as well. But Will did a good job of managing it all and made some real good throws in tight coverage. Its something they shoudl have gone to 5 games ago when they saw they just werent able to control the rush even after CROD came back.

Yes.

We had at least 6 or 7 games where we were facing “second-and-18” type scenarios for most of the game because Levis couldn’t chuck the ball 5 yards over the head of his outlet-back standing against the boundary-side-line of the play.

He has a quick release . . . so . . . .

I honestly think they ended up practicing throwing the ball away the week leading up to the U of L game, telling Levis if option Number One wasn’t there, just chuck it.

His completion % dropped a little, but a 2nd or third down with ten-to-go is better than getting your face planted for a loss of 7 to 12 yards.

I’ll own being ignorant of NFL scouting.

Frankly, I hoped Levis had at least the hope of a higher completion percentage: otherwise surrendering 42 sacks with a quick release boils down to inexplicable stupidity.

No question, just cant score points taking the negative yardage plays we were taking OR getting so predictable on first and second setting up defense to bull rush on third and longs like we did. Did much better with that against UL.
