Did Mark Pope have the same NIL money available to him when he was at BYU as the guy at BYU now has ?

Somebody refresh my memory. Did some sugar daddy come on the scene (The owner of the Utah Jazz maybe ?) who was a friend of the new coach and has pledged to help him out?
I also read that the Mormon church has opened it's purse strings to help out in the NIL world we now live in.
How did BYU suddenly become a major player for top recruits in the country ?

No. The NIL is fluid. A better question is, would it be that way if Pope were still there? It probably would.

I think he would have had a huge increase, but who knows how much of the number floating around are accurate.

NIL is only really just taking off on this new crazy level.

That is true. I only know the real numbers on a handful of NIL deals.

But the ones I know are light years away from what’s been reported for those players.

They could be aberrations?

As for UK it doesn’t matter. UK will not lose a player over money.

No way in h, e, and a pair of hockey sticks Pope was spending even a tiny patch of what this current guy is spending.

I am going to laugh my arse off when this dude turns their locker room into a nighmare because he will have an attitude AND the honor code.. OK what happens when a jealious player or student turns him in when he is drinking coffee OR having sex with one of those beautiful young ladies on campus? Will the head coach suspend said player? Will they abide by the rules? HA not at 8 million ( if true what is reported which I don't believe that number) Should be an interesting season for sure. Build me a TEAM that accepts the TEAM focus and atmosphere.. Don't build me a team where players want to only come to BYU because of the so called money by these boosters. You think that coach will be around in two years... Hell no.

Ummmmmm, just a guess. Hell nah!!!

Just look at how our team quit last season. We were a team with hard nosed culture. With this system kids get payed and shut it down if things are not going their way. They start looking for their new team half way through the season. It’s not only us.
That’s how. Football was supposed to build character for young men getting an education.
Anything but that now. American decline in principles in a nutshell.

This is a weird thing to get upset about. Pope got his dream job and a massive NIL budget. How is he somehow injured by all this?

NIL has gotten out of hand.
It should correct itself soon, because I don’t care how much money these donors have, they won’t continue to bankroll these batshit crazy deals, and get nothing in return.

For example, are people going to start buying more Red Bull just because AJ Dybantsa is promoting it? No. 😂

To be fair, didn’t Calipari and his ego undermine the NIL opportunities for UK basketball while he was the coach?

Absolutely he did. And it's good he did that as more NIl equals another good player perhaps on the 2022 to 2024 teams and those 1st and 2nd round exits perhaps don't happen. A couple sweet 16s and an elite 8 those years and we would still be stuck with him.

He absolutely did not. The boosters wanting Cal gone is nothing but an internet myth. We would have the same NIL money had Cal stayed. UK will not lose a player over money. No matter the coach. In fact, I know of one major donor that gives less now. But he is pretty tight with Cal.

why don't we just let pope win us number 9, and we can reassess our strategy. don't we have the highest NIL expense anyway? this certainly shocked me, very pleasantly. i thought we would be outspent.

IMO, it got out of hand when it went from Name, Image and Likeness to pay for play. I have no issues with college athletes making money within the system that has been set up to make money. I'm hoping the new system of revenue sharing and a clearinghouse for all NIL deals actually works, but we know programs will continue to find ways to get around the established rules. The state of Tennessee just started the movement for that already.

You are stating many things as absolutes. How are you connected to the inside of college basketball?
