Detroit safety speaks highly of UK

Jaylen Kelly-Powell is one of the top Michiganders from the Class of 2017 and he recently visited Lexington to find out what UK has to offer.

Kelly-Powell now has an offer from the Wildcats and he's very happy about that, primarily because his trip went better than expected. The 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back attends Detroit Cass Tech, the top talent-producing school in that state.

Jaylen Kelly-Powell enjoyed his Kentucky visit.
Some of his other offers are from Duke, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio State, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Wisconsin, but apparently it's still exciting when new offers come in. At least Kentucky's offer was cause for excitement, Kelly-Powell told Cats Illustrated.

"I truly enjoyed it," Kelly-Powell said shortly after visiting Kentucky. "I had the opportunity to see the DBs work out and to see the facilities. I was able to sit down with Coach (Derrick) Ansley and talk. They showed me the plans for (the facilities) and I think it will be great. The current facilities are good as well. But the new one will be outstanding."

Detroit is an area that Vince Marrow has recruited before. Ansley would be Kelly-Powell's position coach if he were to pick the Cats.

"He is very genuine and up front," he said of Ansley after talking with him on the visit. "My parents love him. His track record for DBs speaks for itself, as well as Coach (Mark) Stoops'. The players that they have coached and sent to the NFL is remarkable."

Kelly-Powell is ranked the No. 19 safety in the nation from the 2017 class according to Rivals.com. He's also ranked the No. 8 player in the state of Michigan.

Earlier in the summer he also attended Urban Meyer's Friday Night Lights camp at Ohio State, as well as camp events at some other schools that are recruiting him.
