Dennis Gates is part of the Adolph Rupp coaching tree

I'm 44, and been a fan for 44.9 years. I have zero clue about the Rupp coaching tree.
I never hear anyone mention it. Obviously Pat Riley has been a huge success. Joe B. was very successful. Dwayne Casey was NBA Coach of the year. Leonard Hamilton has been reasonably successful.

I’m sure there are many others. Gale Catlett was a name from the old days who was a fair coach. I’m kind of curious how far the tentacles spread.

Does your family tree only have your parents or also grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.?
I am a direct descendent of my grandfather. Hamilton came in 4-5 years after Rupp retired and Hall coached totally different style than Rupp So maybe he is considered a foster child of the Rupp family .

I was his last Student Manager drove him
Everywhere he needed to go last 3 years
His eyesight was poor from Diabetes
I know you did. Friends of mind scholarship and non-scholarship of the Super Kittens speak very highly of you. One of them was Coach Rupp’s paperboy on Eastover when he was a little kid. So appreciate you sharing.

Very kind of you to mention that

With all the time you spent with Coach Rupp in his last years and being part of the transition to Joe B, have you ever contemplated writing a book about your time with Coach Rupp. I believe those of us around the program and fans of that era would so appreciate those stories you could publicaly talk about. Your providing the context on Casey shattering his leg several months ago brought about a flood of memories

It’s the tree. Rupp to Hall to Hamilton. Really Naismith to Allen to Rupp to Hall to Hamilton.
Allen hired Naismith as an assistant but didn’t really take anything from him and Naismith wasn’t really a coach anyway. Rupp took very little if anything from Allen’s style of play.

Most on here wouldn’t know who Rupp was if his name wasn’t on the front of the gym.
I find this hard to believe. Most UK fans are knowledgeable enough to know or at least recognize all of the coaches that have been at UK, regardless of the name on the arena, or their age. It's just not possible to grow up a Kentucky fan in the state of Kentucky and not have heard of every coach in our history.

That’s fine. Doesn’t negate the lineage, which I find interesting.
